Basking in his smashing victory in Tuesday’s election, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Sunday his party ought to follow his blueprint for success by accomplishing tangible things and by wooing minority voters.
“I got 61 percent of the vote… in a blue state that had just re-elected Barack Obama a year ago by 17 points,” Christie said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “That was nearly a 40-point turnaround between voting for a Democrat at the top of the ticket and voting for a Republican. And, you know, getting 51 percent of the Hispanic vote, I’m very proud of that, because I’ve worked hard with the Hispanic community to let them see how our policies can help their families.”
The lesson for the Republican Party of his big victory on Tuesday, he said, is “if you want to want to attract a majority of the Hispanic vote, if you want to nearly triple your African-American vote as a Republican, what you need to do is show up, you need to show up in those places” where those voters live.
And, the New Jersey governor said, “you listen, and you start to make the argument about your policies….. That’s the kind of engagement that we need as Republicans all across the country. To listen and to show up in places where we haven’t gotten a great amount of vote before.”
It’s likely that Christie will be a contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination
This is why you find out how the voter on the street lives in real life. Ground realities are an important thing to know before you start talking policymaking and government funding.
Chris Christie is s generally good guy though isn't he?
Red or blue is irrelevant if one of the people standing are trustworthy.
I want to see more Christie type republicans and way less cruze type republicans... Christie at the very least seems concerned with minorities and their problems and wants to help unlike the tea wackos that think they'll somehow gain more votes by going even further right.... the 2012 election proved you can't find any more votes by going so right you fall off the stage. politics is about solving problems and working with people Christie at least knows what issues he can push and which ones to let go
he was good during the hurricane stuff but his opinions on various civil rights are fucking disgusting
Could you elaborate? Just curious.

Dude, what? Romney was nowhere near right wing, except for his stance on women's issues and gays. He was more of a woman and gay hating Democrat.

It seems like he's playing politics with the issue, trying to win both sides of the argument to his side.

He disapproved of the repeal of DOMA and immediately tried to appeal after the NJ judge okay'd same-sex marriage. He also cut 7.5 million dollars out of women's health care. I don't know of any other civil rights issues off the top of my head, I'd have to do more research.
However, he also cut a billion dollars from education to help pay for tax cuts for corporations, took away collective bargaining rights from a bunch of public workers and called union teachers thugs, and spent 12 million in tax dollars to move an election up three fucking weeks so that his name wouldn't appear on the same ballot as Cory Booker.

Not to mention seriously fucking with peoples pensions that work for the state and county. My mom and dad thought about retiring early to avoid such cuts to their pension, some people lost their medical plans in their job working for the state because they werent grandfathered in. My mom's co-worker who worked for the county 19 years lost her medical benefits because she barely missed the 20 year cut off that was enacted not to long ago. And Christie wanted to make it 25 years for the cut off. On another note despite New Jersey approving medicinal marijuana for terminally ill patients in 2010, there still isnt a solid system setup because of Christie dragging his feet. He even tried to make my school, Rutgers the State University, to grow the weed to keep it out of the private industry's hands and slow down the plan established for the system (by using the school it would've snuffed out other places from growing it and supplying the dispensaries). And its kinda funny how he has repeatedly said how the drug war is failing and how we cant arrest our way out of it, when at the same time a bill decriminalizing cannabis is sitting in limbo was dismissed by Christie as being something that will confuse the kids saying that weed is ok and that they should do it.
Now being a middle class citizen in NJ, I consider him a good governor, but some of these things are just inexcusable.

How could he hate women when he has binders full of them?
and called union teachers thugs.
Is this somehow not true?
Chris Christie 2016 everyone

He HAS to do this. The man does not give two shit whether gays marry, you know who does? The base of his party. He has to atleast put on a little bit of a "welp I tried" show so that he can be a possible republican candidate.
I'm not going to say that's right, but it's what he has to do to be a serious contender for the republican primaries. I live in NJ and while I don't agree with all of his policies I do not think the guy is a bigot, and he has largely showed this in quite a few other situations.

He promoted gay rights and passed gay marriage legislation as Governor.
Someone post a picture of his wife smiling.

All teachers are unionized in the US.The teachers' union is in bed with the state and schools and doesn't give a fuck about its workers, but they are hardly thugs. Christie and his cohorts' problems with the teachers' union is that they can't stand it when a union argues with them and actually asks for some proper fucking progress and reasonable entitlements. He forced a bad deal on them and then called them thugs when the union did the right proper thing and fought against it, and stayed the way, rather than give into that bullshit salary freeze.
"Freeze your salaries or see layoffs". Well no shit they're not going to agree with that. So they refused and he fired teachers and then blamed it on the union. He was in the wrong.

He HAS to try and stop people from getting married because oh no his poor career will only amount to being a famous Governor. That's a terrible argument and any politician who tries to stop gay marriage at this point is a total douche.
If your party requires you to be an asshole to appeal to your base maybe you should not identify with that party anymore.

Yes because switching parties will go over smoothly right?
The Democrat Party would be devastated if the Republican Party tended to the Libertarian movement. All those middle-grounders, all of them.
Gun Rights, Equal Rights for Sexuality Preference, Right to Safe Abortions, Right to Recreational Usage of Drugs, and Streamlined Immigration. Unified in the pursuit of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness!

Yeah pre-election political promises are great, and as we all know they always come true, especially when it's a party I support because they're infallible! And who needs good economics when you have guns and weed!
Yes because switching parties will go over smoothly right?
No, he belongs right where he is. You don't actually see Republicans going "wow, this is tough, you gotta be a total dickwad," and that's part of my point.

And I'm sure we'll all try to act surprised when there is somehow even less hope of passing any legislation pertaining to taxation, regulation of business, or social programmes.
It's 'The Democratic Party', by the way.
