Canada News [release] Soon-to-be 65-year-old Jerry McLard has been living out of a homeless shelter in Winchester, Virginia for eight years, answering phones and doing laundry to make ends meet. After years of saving he's finally got more than enough money for an apartment of his own - but he's giving it all away instead. "Just giving back what people have given me," said McLard when asked why he was donating $2,500 to charity. FOX reports that the generous senior will be doling out $1,000 to the Winchester Rescue Mission, $1,000 to the Community Coalition Action Project and $500 to a free clinic that he says saved his life with an early cancer diagnosis. "If I hadn't lived here, I might not be talking to you today," the still-homeless man told Fox, noting that he loves being at the shelter and works there seven days a week. All McLard hopes for in return is that when somebody see a homeless person they remember that "they're people too." [/release] If you say stupid shit like "Meh, not much", I will murder your face
WHAT! This man is extremely kind. A majority of the population would not do this.
What an amazing feat. Shows not all hobos are rude, drug using drunkards.
McLard..
What an amazing feat. Shows not all hobos are rude, drug using drunkards.
Actually a lot of hobos are extremely kind people. They just don't know what to do with themselves.
meh its just 2500. its not much. :smug: Smother me in boxes (User was banned for this post ("Asking for ratings" - TH89))
just a ploy to make people feel bad for him and give him lots of money.
meh its just 2500. its not much.
It's a fortune to someone that's homeless.. I think you've missed the entire point of the article.
Actually a lot of hobos are extremely kind people. They just don't know what to do with themselves.
Some hobos even live on the street/in shelters for so long that they can't get used to living in apartments.
$2500? I wish I was homeless.
This man deserves an internet.
Some hobos even live on the street/in shelters for so long that they can't get used to living in apartments.
"hey your rents late" "No no no, you got it all wrong, YOU give ME money"
meh its just 2500. its not much.
It can get me a hundred handjobs from your mother
It can get me a hundred handjobs from your mother
Roughly 2,500 of them.
meh its just 2500. its not much.
Mark 12:44. A poor woman went to the altar and only put two worthless copper coins, everything she owned, in to the temple's treasury. Everyone else had donated portions of their wealth while she had given everything. The same applies here: these are generous actions which are very scarcely done. It doesn't matter if twenty five hundred is a lot or isn't: it's everything [to him].
It's a fortune to someone that's homeless.. I think you've missed the entire point of the article.
I think you missed the satire nature of the post.
Man I earn that in about 10 days at my job, I really need to learn not to take it for granted. Or whatever that saying is, guys got a heart of gold
:words:
You done making decisions based off a fiction novel?
You done making decisions based off a fiction novel?
I'm not quoting the Bible because of it being a religious textbook; I'm quoting it because it's obviously apparent enough that it's everything he owns. You can say "boo hoo it's just $2500" but if you're thick enough to say that and mean it, then you obviously don't understand that this gentleman puts honor beyond greediness. I can care less where the quote comes from. I bet if it was in the Koran, you'd call me a terrorist, too. Go troll somewhere else.
Seems like a strong and friendly man.
I bet if it was in the Koran you'd call me a terrorist
You're right. Terrorists are always right...
I think you missed the satire nature of the post.
I know it was satirical, but it was very, very dumb
Wow, this is truly inspiring.
This man should be an idol for everyone of us.
Does he realize that he himself is a charity? In fact, him remaining homeless is probably costing more charity money than he donated.
I think Richard is an ass.
if i were him i'd have bought a cheap place awesome guy
Does he realize that he himself is a charity? At least he is paying something back for it.
Does he realize that he himself is a charity? In fact, him remaining homeless is probably costing more charity money than he donated.
It depends on what public services in particular he uses. Most homeless people are like this, believe it or not. They adapt and forget about greed -- you can have entire conversations with them and/or do things like take photographs and the subject of money/payment may more than likely never even show up. Living life is just natural enough. They don't have to worry about consumeristic antics. I'm sure they use up public services but the concept of how much money the state/county government loses from it is way beyond them -- and even most of us. There's some people who are dicks about it, sure, but that's a given.
You know, some homeless people are content with their lifestyle after decades living as one. It's also natural for people to be grateful for where they are at right now. And since he doesn't have any substance abuse under his agenda, he gave his money to charity. What else is someone going to do with the money, when they have been living a material free life for so long.
I think Richard is an ass.
Awww, you didn't have to say that :saddowns:
