The dog of a slain US Navy SEAL remained loyal even in death — refusing to walk away from his owner's casket during the funeral service
Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, 35, from San Diego, was one of 30 troops killed in Afghanistan when a Chinook helicopter was shot down by Taliban insurgents on August 6.
His funeral was held in Rockford, Iowa, last Friday.
During the service, attended by 1500 people, his Labrador Hawkeye walked up to the casket, heaved a sigh and lay down in front of it for the duration of the memorial.
Tumlinson's cousin, Lisa Pembleton, photographed the dog resting by the casket.
"Hawkeye was/is his loyal 'son'… I hadn't planned on taking any pictures other than with family," Pembleton wrote in a statement to the military blog
"However, from my seat at the funeral, I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members who couldn't make it or couldn't see what I could from the aisle."

Why are dog stories always so sad?
I'm sad now.
My day has been ruined.
This makes me sad. :(
That's OK, I didn't feel like being happy today.
Just one of those things that proves dogs are better than cats.
Mans best friend :(
Herp derp animals can't feel anything like sorrow.
Sad story, but very common when dogs are involved.
Damnit I want to give that dog a hug. :( Dogs are so expressive, you can always tell what they're feeling if you've known them for a couple of days.

Why does a story like this "ruin" your guy's days?
I think its cool that the dog stayed loyal to his dead master. I don't feel sad for the situation, more impressed.
Why are dog stories always so sad?
Because dogs are extremely loyal.

It's sad because the guy's all like dead and the dog is all like sad so I'm sad because the dog is sad and stuff.

It must be nice, not having lost anyone important in your life. When you do, you'll know why.
T'is a sad story, hope the dog gets a good family to live with though.
