• I want to play more Jazz on the guitar but don't really know where to begin

I have never really played much jazz guitar. I'm getting bored of rock/metal/blues playing now and I am trying to branch out. Can anyone suggest stuff to learn? In particular I want ones with those cool solos with the "random" notes which sound really good and aren't that random at all. Mmmm chromaticisms. By the way I've been playing about 4.33 years. Cheers ma dears :)

If you want to be able to play jazz on the guitar just look into jazz chords like the major 7 and minor 7 chords. There are more than just those as well. Also work on rhythm. Rhythm is a huge part of jazz guitar playing because they add the jazzy feel to it.

But what I'm looking for is more ways to put it into practice, cos primarily being a rock guitarist those kind of chords don't see the light of day most of the time. Get a copy of some jazz real books, great stuff. Hand written though, can get sketchilly hard to read sometimes... Record yourself playinmg the chords, Or use band-in-a-box and use the the melody as a basis for some intresting solos. Big thing is to remember, In jazz, less-is-more and there is no such thing as a "wrong" note. as long as you are referencing the current chord at the start of the bar you could put a really god-awfull diminished double stop in there.
If you play blues notes (scale patterns) with jazzy fizzle chords, you may have some nice stuff. That's what my guitar teacher told me at least. Goodluck!
What does "fizzle chords" mean?
I don't know, have you tried T-Bone Walker? I'd say it's jazz/blues. Edit: There is a song by him called I'm Still in Love with You. It's kinda rare, and make sure you find the "jazz" version and not the "soul" version! Although, it's not very random :P
BB King, look into his style, it's awesome.
