It's not a [I]terrible[/I] idea - how they managed to cram audio and video onto an audio cassette is pretty impressive and even useful.
It's the rest of the camera that failed it. If it had a lens that could better collect light, dropped the mic in favor of an audio line in for an external mic (since the internal mic is useless anyway), and improved the battery life (D batteries maybe?) at a small extra cost, it probably would've been way more useful. 120x90 sounds ridiculously small now, and it is, but in the late 80's it was probably good enough for a cheap camera.
