In my opinion, laws should only serve to protect people and establishments from each other. Legislators should not make laws prohibiting victimless crimes and crimes which only harm one's self. I believe that laws which criminalize victimless crimes restrict personal freedoms while exhausting the capacity of prisons.
This is why blue laws, laws restricting gambling, and drug laws are complete bullshit.
Laws should only be in place to protect people from direct harm, such as the loss of property or bodily harm.
My point is this: If it harms no one or only harms one's self it should be fully legal.
um tldr

Child Porn would be perfectly fine, I guess.

but gambling and drugs lead to crime
while i agree they should be less strict, there have to be some regulations
Drug laws protect people from serious drugs like heroin etc.
Unless, you're only talking about laws restricting mildly-harmful to non-harmful and non-addictive controlled substances, then I have to agree with you only partially.

Christ people read the fucking thread.

Children can't give consent and need to be protected from others taking advantage of them.

How would child pornography be fine? How would you feel if you saw a four year old being forced to pose naked?
How would child pornography be fine? How would you feel if you saw a four year old being forced to pose naked?
But I thought laws shouldn't be based on morality :downs:

No because children can't give consent, so they are harmed in the production of it.

In a law not based on traditional religeous morals what would be the age of consent?
In a law not based on traditional religeous morals what would be the age of consent?
Same as the age of majority, eighteen.
Same as the age of majority, eighteen.
The age of majority is one made by moral law
The age of majority is one made by moral law
That one was twenty-one.
That one was twenty-one.

The age of majority is the threshold of adulthood as it is conceptualized (and recognized or declared) in law.
But in puritanical law it was twenty-one. Age of majority being at age eighteen is an entirely secular concept because that age really is the beginning of adulthood.
Also that quote says nothing about it being a moral law, it's more of a blanket law that serves as a gauge of maturity to do things.
but gambling and drugs lead to crime
Because they're illegal.

Whilst I agree with blue laws being abolished, laws that restrict gambling and particulary drugs are there to prevent other crimes taking place. If you are under the effects of hard drugs, the chances of you hurting someone else or damaging property is greatly increased.

The same could be said for alcohol, which is legal. Come off it.
18 is the limit because when you're younger, you don't really know what is in your best interest. While you think touching the old man's penis is just harmless fun, it's going to be a thought that sickens you and fucks with you the rest of your life.

In which you should be forced to serve time and replace the property you've damaged.
Near my state, they banned Tupperware on the rivers.

Wait..

Uh, what does that even mean?
In a law not based on traditional religeous morals what would be the age of consent?
Listen; In the bible, a man offered up his wife and (Underage) daughter to some muggers rather than having let them kill him. In the Qu'ran, Mohammud's wife was 12.
Our laws aren't based on traditional religious morals, if those are anything to go by.

That is what law is its rules based on public opinion and standards. (Most of the time)
