The possibility of Bernie Sanders running for president is growing.
(Reuters) - Bernie Sanders, one of the Senate's leading liberals, said on Sunday he is thinking about running for U.S. president in 2016 as either a Democrat or an independent in a move that could complicate Hillary Clinton's path to the White House.
Sanders, an independent from Vermont, could pose a challenge from the left to Clinton, widely seen as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. She has not officially said she is a candidate but has acted very much like one.
"I think anybody who speaks to the needs of the working class and the middle class of this country and shows the courage to take on the billionaire class, I think that candidate will do pretty well," Sanders told the NBC program "Meet the Press," giving a possible preview of his message in the 2016 campaign.
Sanders is serving his second six-year term in the Senate. He has cultivated a following among some American liberals, especially on economic issues like the growing income disparity between rich and poor and corporate greed. He is a self-described socialist who caucuses with Democrats in the Senate.
"I am thinking about running for president," Sanders said, adding that he must decide whether to run as an independent or wade into the fight for the Democratic nomination
0 chance of him winning but I hope he runs.
got about the same chance as rick santorum does

anyone but hillary would be great
2016 is gonna suck anyway. The Dems will either run Hilldog or some progressive moron, while the Republicans will run Mittens again or some televangelist. Thus meaning another third party vote for me. Can we have one election that isn't between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich?

His only chance of winning is getting the democratic ticket. It wouldn't be such a shitfest if our political system wasn't botched.
Shit, at the very least he isn't hillary clinton.

hey now our political system works very well for 18th century america
He has a real interesting way of talking. Do most people in Vermont have this accent?

I hope Santorum runs again though. The more borderline fascist nutcases that run for the GOP nomination, the better.
He is going to be 75 in 2016. Get those old farts out of your government America and put some younger people that look at the future and don't live in the past, for God's sake. Damn, even Hilary is old as hell, I thought she was a bit younger.

With Obama and Clinton, US politics has currently exceeded its quota of 'diverse' people in positions where people will actually listen to them. Please come back in 4 years where maybe a gay man or something will be there!

Believe it or not, there's actually restrictions on age in place for those who run for the presidency. (at least 35)

At least his ideas are up to date. I'd rather have a 75 year old man who isn't trying to fuck people with backwards social policies.

lol way to judge a book by it's cover, Bernie's more progressive than most of the younger members of his party
see this guy? he's the same age as our youngest president ever, supported by a lot of Republicans, and he's fucking nuts

I don't think you realize the sheer amount of corporate back-channeling, shitty political favors, and legislative gruntwork required to build the right network of influence to run for meaningful office in the US. This shit takes years, even more if you're running cleanly. There's a reason we've never had a president under 40.
He seems level-headed, he has his ideas straight but he's very good at avoiding questions :v:
yeah he would be the oldest elected president if it happened

Is he really avoiding them or just providing an honest thoughtful response? Most political commentators give really two-sided questions.
sadly hilary would still get the nomination
i'd vote for bernie tho

How can there be such thing as "progressives" that want Clinton? God this country and it's two conservative party system.

Yeah, the interviewers questions were pretty stupid and sensationalist at a lot of points.
I'd vote for him
I hope he doesn't run as an independent. All the sane people will vote for him but there's not enough of them for him to win.
No thanks

It is the right thing to do, though. The interviewer is just trying to bait him for controversial statements, and is quite unpolite at it. He's not concerned with whether Hillary Clinton wants to fight for X and Y social causes but with what he actually wants to put forward.
If I were American he would have my vote. He sounds very down to earth and has the right ideas.
While I love how he is an Independent, I almost feel like I wish he would run as a Democrat just to see him in a debate with Clinton. Would be fascinating to have an actual foreign policy debate in this country with people who don't think the same thing (prime example being Romney and Obama's inability to find a difference in opinion when it came to foreign policy). Unfortunately, it's just not a good year for Sanders considering Clinton is probably guaranteed to win with such a poor pick of GOP candidates and also from the Democrats except for Clinton (Biden is basically a joke who can't keep his mouth shut). Does anyone know who the Democrats and Republicans will try to push once the second Clinton administration is over? I think the GOP is really trying to make Marco Rubio be their future savior, but he doesn't have the experience quite yet.

Well if everyone votes for him in the primary, I know I will.
No one votes in primaries.

I can see them pushing Chris Christie on a "He's only 90% as much of a shit bag as most republicans" bid
