According to a recent Reddit post, he emailed a popular YouTuber to offer them a free code for one of the developer's games and got a reply that made his "jaw drop", asking for thousands of dollars in return for coverage of the game. Apparently, the YouTuber, who has "a few million subscribers", asked for either $17,600 in exchange for two to three "talking points," or $22,000 for the addition of a description link. Tester, as well as stating that he didn't agree to pay up, stresses that the YouTuber didn't offer positive promotion of the game.
http://www.pcgamer.com/youtuber-reportedly-requests-22000-for-coverage/
hah. That's the end of that studio.
hah. That's the end of that studio.
Read: Youtuber not studio. I hope it wasn't Markiplier, Jacksepticeye or PewDiePie.
Probably was Pewdiepie
Probably was Pewdiepie

"a few million subscribers"
It probably wasn't
I thought the deal was that the youtuber got to keep the advertising money and got a free copy of the game Also there's so many gaming youtubers with a couple million subs, so it's impossible to guess with this information
I really wanna find out who it is. If his name gets out, people are gonna get really mad at whoever it is.
I Wouldn't be surprised if it was this guy.
hah. That's the end of that youtuber.
fixed that.
I Wouldn't be surprised if it was this guy.
Jesus that thing is straight outta Tim and Eric.
Say what you will about his videos but I have met the guy IRL and he is actually a really nice guy and he does a lot for his fans. There are a lot of Youtubers (Especially ones around Fifa) who have a massive following but are such awful role models. I have worked with a few big names during meet and greets and such (Sidemen, Yogscast etc) and a lot of them can be entitled twats.

I haven't paid attention to them in years and the last time I heard about them they got banned from Minecon over something.
While content creators on YouTube receive code for many games almost every day, to the point where (as itisjuly said) a free game becomes "paperwork" most of the time, asking such high prices for such small amounts of coverage sounds like taking not just the piss, but the entire damn bladder and maybe one of the kidneys to boot. I understand why no-one can cover all of the games, especially since more than two videos a day can result in a loss of views since people don't usually have the time to watch all of the videos ever (resulting in an overall dip in initial views which in turn hurts their earnings), but you really shouldn't have to PAY such exorbitant amounts unless you're doing a full-on paid promotional brand deal in something like Chivalry or Guns of Icarus. And what's more, considering the dire straits that YouTube's ad revenue is in at the moment, content creators probably wouldn't turn their nose up at doing a paid promotion for something that grabs their interest. It ain't money for nothing, but they'll probably get their "kicks" for free if it's something they enjoy.

If the YouTuber was part of a gaming network, the pricing might have been suggested by said gaming network that takes a cut out of the money being made by each YouTuber to provide services like a vast music library, game code access, etc.
wow what a dick move.
If I was the developer I would totally tell everyone who this youtuber is.
Without any proof how do we not know the indie PR guy just made it up to get a load of attention (he has got more attention from this scandal than he would of if any youtubers had used the free gamecode they gave them)
How was Yogscast anyways? I haven't paid attention to them in years and the last time I heard about them they got banned from Minecon over something.
There were a lot of issues around them being totally uncooperative and entitled and just generally not very professional at all, so I'm not really surprised to hear they were banned from Minecon.
Without any proof how do we not know the indie PR guy just made it up to get a load of attention (he has got more attention from this scandal than he would of if any youtubers had used the free gamecode they gave them)
I guess ultimately you don't, the lack of a name means there is nobody to refute the claims, but they would most likely not mention it to protect themselves as well.
How was Yogscast anyways? I haven't paid attention to them in years and the last time I heard about them they got banned from Minecon over something.
In my experience, Yogscast entirely depends on the member. Some seem extremely genuine, and are a pleasure to deal with (Sips, Sjin, Zoey), but some of them are absolutely some of the worst people I've ever worked with. The one that comes to mind for me is Martyn, (inthelittlewood) who outright not only ignored contact about using someone's artwork on a thumbnail (Not fanart, just random artwork he found), but actually blocked people over it, and refused to give credit to the person at all, even going as far to insult people.
Why haven't they released the name of the channel?
Why haven't they released the name of the channel?
There might be legal problems with releasing who, I'm guessing.

He comes across as alright whenever he pops up with Dodger or the rest of the Co-Optional Crew.

why is this a problem? it's quite clear the youtuber doesn't give a shit about promotion requests so he asked for lots of money as a way to say "stop bothering me"
why is this a problem? it's quite clear the youtuber doesn't give a shit about promotion requests so he asked for lots of money as a way to say "stop bothering me"
Naw they want money, which is a problem with reviews as that can change how someone reviews the game. Because if you get paid and give a bad review you won't get paid again for another game they make. Which the solution to that is say $500 to do a review. Which Is reasonable with the game free and the ad money they will make.
If I was the developer I would totally tell everyone who this youtuber is.
And lose all respect to your name Nobody would ever review anything from you after that
Most likely yogscast.
