[h=3]A 105-YEAR-OLD woman hanged herself after telling her family she was tired of waiting to die.[/h]
Friends said great-great-great-gran Anastasia Khoreva had been depressed after being struck down with a lung infection.
The pensioner waited until her family had left the house then used a clothes line to fashion a makeshift noose in her bedroom.
Anastasia, from Darsun, Russia, had lived through the Russian Revolution, two world wars and the mass executions of communist tyrant Joseph Stalin.
One neighbour said: "It's a strange thing to do at her time of life but she used to say she was fed up with waiting for death — so she wanted to go and meet it."
A family member added: "She'd tried once before saying she'd had enough, but that time we managed to stop her.
"This time we weren't so lucky." [/quote]
Jesus christ this looks like an Onion article.
Wow, that's depressing.
I don't see the problem here, if I was 105, I would be tired of life. I literally would not be able to enjoy life to the fullest anymore.
105, lived a life full of upheaval and atrocity, and withering to the point that you can hang yourself with a coathanger
definitely Onion material, yep.
[editline]21st March 2012[/editline]
this is depressing as all hell
Well if I had the shit life she had I'd probably do the same, all those wars not to mention the shit that went down in Russia in the past 100 years and then a fucking lung infection.

If she wanted to die, let her do it. She's probably suffered enough with things like her past friends and family dying. I wouldn't want to live anymore, either.

It's not so black and white when you're in the family. While what you say is true, you seriously can expect it to be that simple for a family to accept.

They already caught her once, which they should have known that she didn't want to go through it anymore. I get what you're saying, but sometimes people just need to move on and let them do what they want to do, what will make them happy.
I don't understand why someone would want to commit suicide in a way that lets you suffer before you die. Why put yourself through that at your last moments, just use a gun, or overdose or something. Now don't get me wrong I'm %100 against suicide, of course there are exceptions, this being one. She was an old woman on the verge of dying, she was in the right to decide that, I'm sure she made amends and everything beforehand.
I say after 80 let them decide if they want to keep living. I think its our own right as living beings to decide if we dont want to be living anymore. It's our choice and we know the consequences.
I don't blame her, I'm just about tired of waiting to die too and I'm 85 years younger than she is
Sad but understandable. It must be excruciating going to bed every night not knowing if you're going to wake up
I like how she got tired of waiting for Death to get his slow ass over to her and got up and went to him herself. She is dead, but she died like a man.

wah, you're too young to know if you want to die, your just in a rut in your life, everyone considers it at one point or another, but only fools go through with it at a young age.

I don't need any life advice. I have the resources to kill myself whenever I want but I haven't done it and don't plan on doing it any time soon.

Hanging doesn't necessarily cause suffering. That's only if you fuck it up. If you do it right it will either snap your neck instantly or tear the arteries in your neck causing instant death.
I came across a similar thing during a discussion in school about eternal life. It would be great until you realize that you've seen everything in the world and accomplished all your goals. Now you're done and you're screwed because you're stuck in life.

Also, skydive without a parachute or something. Hella fun 3 minutes and then you're INSTANTLY dead (unless, of course, you screw it up by landing in a haystack :v: ).

Slow, painful haystack death.
Death, The end of everything and all. It's a fear i've faced before, But i don't believe like this. I understand it's the end. I will cease to be. Will i have mattered? I don't know.
I'm afraid of it yet at the same time i welcome it when the time comes. I will cease to be. I wonder what's after, What's next.
That is the true terror. It's not the pain, But the nothing afterwards. I've faced it and i've come to realize the reality is i need to leave my mark here in what little time i do have. I suggest to you all that we do the same.

only because we didn't find the needle

It's The Sun. It's pretty damn close.
Just like the movie Harold and Maude. Honestly things seem to just generally go downhill for most people after 80 anyway.
If I were 105 years old I would be pretty tired of living. I mean, you have pretty much been apart of everything the world wars etc.

It's quite common, My great grandma wasn't suicidal at 102 but she openly said she was tired of it all and was ready to go.
"we weren't so lucky"? come on.
If I make it to 90, im jumping out of an air plane with no parachute
Unless they allow human euthanasia by then, I don't want to spend my last years in a retirement home dependent on others

Trust me. With the age we live in, and are going to be living in.
You will be 90 and healthy. Hardly even old by standards. Collagen will be restored, heart disease prevented, etc etc etc

You also didn't live through two World Wars and what would basically amount to mass murder. She has known only death through life, and was wondering if it was ever going to die.
She had to be one of the older people in the entire world. I wonder what her rank was. Top 1% for sure. 105 is OLD.
Looked it up. Oldest living is 115. Top ten have 4 114 year olds and 5 113 year olds. For what its worth.
