BEIRUT, Lebanon — King Salman of Saudi Arabia has removed the kingdom’s crown prince and named his 31-year-old son, Mohammed bin Salman, next in line to the Saudi throne.
The move marks a stark upheaval in the leadership of the wealthy kingdom, a key ally of the United States and the Arab world’s largest economy.
Prince Mohammed emerged from relative obscurity when his father ascended the throne in 2015, and he has since accumulated vast powers, serving as defense minister, overseeing the state oil company and launching a vast effort to reform the Saudi economy.
His supporters praise him as hard-working and say he offers a hopeful vision for the kingdom’s future, especially for its large youth population. His critics have called him rash, inexperienced and power-hungry.
The royal reordering also brought to an end the career of the previous crown prince, Mohammed bin Nayef, who served as interior minister and was widely respected by Saudis and their foreign allies for dismantling Al Qaeda’s networks inside the kingdom. Wednesday’s decrees removed him both from his place as next in line to the throne and from his post as interior minister.
Yes because revolutions in the Middle East always make everything better for everyone.

Im not sure you understand his point.

oil's struggling to stay above 40$/barrel with an enourmous global glut

He appears to be under the misconception the Saudi's are the only source of oil.
Hope you didnt want to use any oil
the world is transitioning away from an oil economy and the Saudis don't control as much oil as they used to
I personally can't wait for the day when these fake oil economies of Arabia return to the sand whence they came

In this case it would. The Saudi's, despite being a backwards, dark-ages state that would otherwise be irrelevent have made the world a much more dangerous place than it should be in the 21st century. They've mostly gotten away with it by using oil money to manipulate the worst excesses of western leaders: namely greed.

Pretty impossible for the House of Saud to collapse without complete and total anarchy in Saudi Arabia, perhaps the whole region even. They are a facet in every single corner of their country's government. Every minister, even deputy minister and low level government officials are part of the Saudi family in some manner.

And them turning into another Iraq or Syria is going to improve things how?
Saw this coming.

theres two forces going on, one the big consumers are transitioning away and getting better at producing and using their own oil, and the big producers have been undercut by massive efficiency gains allowing all the medium sized guys to screw up their cartel quotas.
opec is basically toothless now that its got to negotiate with countries outside the arab world. russia will not follow opec quotas, Venezuela will not, and outside the arab sphere of influence theres no reason not to cheat opec quotas and make a little extra cash.

That is one of the reasons why SA will reform itself and the Gulf Cooperation Council, they cannot survive off of oil anymore, but they need peace to become economically prosperous in the other areas.

Isn't Venezuela part of OPEC though?

Venezuela's government can't run a lemon stand ffs.
They don't count anymore.
I am not very up to date with the monarchy of Saudi Arabia but wouldn't being the son of the king make someone the prince by definition
If his son ends up becoming King he'd be the first Monarch to not be from the generation of Ibn Saud's sons, besides Ibn Saud of course. Times are a changing.

Yes. Saudi Arabia literally has hundreds of princes, due to princes of kings having dozens of kids and they have dozens of kids; all get to be called princes. However what happened here is someone was named the crown prince. That designation is reserved for one sole person who will become the next king when the current one abdicates or dies.
when in doubt burn more black shit out the ground

Revolutions are the easy part, and you really don't want them except in the most dire of circumstances. Almost all revolutions either get gunned down leaving something much worse afterwards (spartacist revolt, PKI indonesia) or they succeed and the revolutions ideals get subverted (russia, france.) Cases like America are pretty damn rare.

The house of Saud is the only thing keeping the true Theocrats out of power, also as a Canadian I'd rather not have a loaf of bread cost ten bucks because who the fuck knows what a Grand Imam would do.
