A few news sites have reported on it, but here's the dude's blog, which is probably as closest source you can get.
This morning, I tried to fly out of San Diego International Airport but was refused by the TSA. I had been somewhat prepared for this eventuality. I have been reading about the millimeter wave and backscatter x-ray machines and the possible harm to health as well as the vivid pictures they create of people's naked bodies. Not wanting to go through them, I had done my research on the TSA's website prior to traveling to see if SAN had them. From all indications, they did not. When I arrived at the security line, I found that the TSA's website was out of date. SAN does in fact utilize backscatter x-ray machines.
I made my way through the line toward the first line of "defense": the TSA ID checker. This agent looked over my boarding pass, looked over my ID, looked at me and then back at my ID. After that, he waved me through. SAN is still operating metal detectors, so I walked over to one of the lines for them. After removing my shoes and making my way toward the metal detector, the person in front of me in line was pulled out to go through the backscatter machine. After asking what it was and being told, he opted out. This left the machine free, and before I could go through the metal detector, I was pulled out of line to go through the backscatter machine. When asked, I half-chuckled and said, "I don't think so." At this point, I was informed that I would be subject to a pat down, and I waited for another agent.
A male agent (it was a female who had directed me to the backscatter machine in the first place), came and waited for me to get my bags and then directed me over to the far corner of the area for screening. After setting my things on a table, he turned to me and began to explain that he was going to do a "standard" pat down. (I thought to myself, "great, not one of those gropings like I've been reading about".) After he described, the pat down, I realized that he intended to touch my groin. After he finished his description but before he started the pat down, I looked him straight in the eye and said, "if you touch my junk, I'll have you arrested." He, a bit taken aback, informed me that he would have to involve his supervisor because of my comment.
In short, a passenger refuses to go through the body scan machine, and refuses to be patted down by TSA employees. He leaves his cell phone on, and records the whole conversation. It's revealed he's likely to face a civil lawsuit for refusing to comply.
In particular, this bit caught me eye.
I took a seat in a tiny metal chair next to the table with my belongings and waited. While waiting, I asked the original agent (who was supposed to do the pat down) if he had many people opt out to which he replied, none (or almost none, I don't remember exactly). He said that I gave up a lot of rights when I bought my ticket
And it made me angry. I don't like where airport security measures are heading.
Here's the original video. There are a few more on the site.

Good on him, anyway.
He didn't want anyone to touch his junk because he's secretly a woman
That's dumb. Especially the part that you said disturbed you, OP.
In all honesty, he should have just fucking gone with the flow.
"I'm going to go fly on a plane, and refuse to abide to security procedures, forget about breaking the law, it's my right to do as such."
Thank god they don't do this in europe

Who gives a fuck if you're naked. I'm pretty sure you don't care when it's with a girl you love.

The only time I can see pat down involving the groin area is if there is a reason to believe there hiding something.

The guy's a jerk. The agent seemed to be very polite with him, offering him a private area to be pat down in, and the guy just threatens to have him arrested. Does everyone these days just assume that defying authority (an authority that is there for the protection of civilians) is "cool"? He tries to make it seem like he was the righteous one in the situation, but he was just being a dumbass.
this guy is a dipshit
he was fully aware of the security he would have to go through, went anyway, then bitched about what he had to go through
[editline]16th November 2010[/editline]
if you don't want to go through airport security take a different method of transportation
I am against these shitty measures. I would never undress in an airport. Removing shoes is a big enough hassle, undressing is fucking terrible.
what a dipshit
if you're unwilling to deal with airport security measures then use another form of travel

Are you all stupid or what?
He checked the TSA's website before he bought the ticket and it said he would NOT be required to go through one of the nude-o-scopes. But the information on the site was outdated.
This guy is a fucking twat.
I don't see how anyone can be for these body scan machines or the evasive pat downs.
That said, it doesn't bother me.

He should sue for false information.
Fuck all this Orwellian shit. I'm not getting strip searched just because I don't want to drive four hours to Frisco.
Idiot was probably doing it with the "FIGHT THA POWAHH!!" mentality

Let me see your genitals.
What? No? Are you some kind of fucking communist or something?

In all honesty I just wait for the "did you even read" post because it's faster than reading the article.
I don't get what the problem is. The scans make it easier to tell if someone's hiding a weapon. And I can't imagine that anyone would look at this:

and feel aroused.
I wouldn't feel violated by a body scan if the image turned out like that.

Or he just didn't want his dick touched by some stranger.
Reminds me of that English professor who got kicked out of Starbucks for refusing to use the lingo. Both of them were stupid for refusing to conform to the rules set by the management.

Regardless, he did not handle it in the correct manner. A calm human being would generally say "Hey, looks like I was a bit misinformed, oh well! Lets get this over with so I can get on my flight with my over-priced magazines and chips!" But he had to be a tool who causes issues instead of just going with the program.

Oh hey, no one said I was going to get tortured, oh well, lets do it anyway(not saying this is torture, but it's not normal if you have to do something that wasn't in the rules)

You do realize they only pat downs if you fail multiple metal detector tests?
Apparently these machines are fairly ineffective.
I'd probably leave the plane and demand a refund and compensation for getting fucked over.
