Will.I.Am and Chris Brown Rip-Off EDM Track, Racism & Hateful Comments Inbound

If you aren't connected to the electronic music scene, you probably haven't heard of a song called Rebound by Arty & Mat Zo. The song was very popular in its scene, and it continues to remain popular. However, Will.I.Am recently released a new single of his called Let's Go, and let's just say he didn't put the most effort into it..
Here's the ripoff:

And the original track:

The comments on Will.I.Am and Chris Brown's facebook pages are quite hilarious, there's a lot of racism and insults being flung about:

The spam is pretty good too.

Arty I dont really like the direction hes taken, but Mat Zo doesn't deserve this.

Still, nobody deserves to have their music completely stolen with no permission or licensing whatsoever.
the idea that a rip-off exists in present day mainstream "EDM" is more hilarious than the comments
before he rips off music from other artists he should actually check to make sure that his music is worth listening to in the first place.

I know where you're coming from, but most ripoffs that happen in the EDM scene aren't this bad. Listen to the two tracks. It's as bad as I'm making it sound.
So many rap songs I've heard do shit like this, whether it's with permission or not, just them rapping over some song that someone else did. It's terrible. I hope they answer people on this shit
Oh my god he literally just took the track and threw it in there.

i hope they take william to court and get all that douche's money.
i mean even just putting chris brown on a track is disgusting, stealing just adds insult to injury.
Only these two idiots could have pulled this off. I'm convinced William isn't even human, when he talks in interviews it's like he struggles to form sentences half the time.
Mat Zo and Arty are great, they definitely deserve better than this.

Please explain.
chris brown is such a fucking chode
every picture i see of him, he looks like an asshole

There's a difference between creative mixing and blatantly ripping off with little effort like Chris Brown.
Guys they're just sharing the music.
[editline]16th April 2013[/editline]
The music deserves to be shared not horded for profit.
They don't even sound alike.
They don't even sound alike.
Go to 2:00 in the original.
They don't even sound alike.
You obviously only listened to a few seconds of each, or you're just a terrible troll.
I remember when Will was in the Black Eyed Peas, and they actually had talent. What happened to you, man?
You obviously only listened to a few seconds of each, or you're just a terrible troll.
Actually I listened to it for about a minute then skipped through it.

I can't tell if you are being serious or just an idiot.
Yes they stole it but people are over reacting, there wasn't even this much hate when Glee stole that Jonathan Coulton cover

It comes down to the fans. Perhaps Jonathan Coulton fans under reacted. Nobody should be allowed to get away with this, and I feel that this reaction truly is warranted.
Yes they stole it but people are over reacting, there wasn't even this much hate when Glee stole that Jonathan Coulton cover
There is hardly any overreacting, they stole a song that doesn't belong to them and they are claiming it as their own.

if there is then its not expressed very well
just thank god for bass music and dubstep else we might still be listening to the same supersaw and TR-909 bassdrum sample from 2001
that pacifier must be all chewed up and gross by now
Oh look, more of his songs sound similar to popular EDM tracks:

2:14

0:45

Neither of these are as blatant as his rebound rip-off but it's still obvious all this guy does is steal from popular EDM artists.
He actually stole 3 more.
Koyu - Tung (Original)
ripoff
Sandro & Quintino - Epic (Original)
ripoff
Arty - Kate (Original)

thats all big label dudes do. steal from edm artists and shit out crappy records.
then the younger kids pick up those records and continue the cycle of shitty EDM.
thats how its been since the emergence of "pop" trance and super-star DJ's. thats why im kind of amused by the notion of a rip-off when its all retreading the same ground from 10 years ago.

You're right, a lot of artists and labels steal from others. Calvin Harris blatantly ripped-off another song a few years ago and got no flack for it, as did Guetta ripping-off Michael Calfan but that does not excuse this. You can't just put a blanket over popular EDM and say it's all stolen, please explain to me how the original mix of 'Rebound' is a copy of another song.

Sampling in the Hip-Hop production scene and covers of song are two COMPLETELY different things. The only time I've heard another producers song used for another rapper has been on Mixtapes and those are mainly freestyles. The beats and music production in Hip-Hop are heavily influenced by MANY MANY MANY different genres of music and have heavy roots in Soul, Jazz, Funk, R&B and the likes (Kanye West is a great producer, hes used tons of different inspirations Daft Punk, Otis Redding, etc.) to create something new out of all these things combined together. Sampling has been very important to the genre since its creation in its young days and is a new retake on the old in the new. This quote puts it together much more elegantly then I could ever hope to achieve.
Hip hop does not simply draw inspiration from a range of samples, but it layers these fragments into an artistic object. If sampling is the first level of hip hop aesthetics, how the pieces or elements fit together constitute the second level. Hip hop emphasizes and calls attention to its layered nature. The aesthetic code of hip hop does not seek to render invisible the layers of samples, sounds, references, images, and metaphors. Rather, it aims to create a collage in which the sampled texts augment and deepen the song/book/art's meaning to those who can decode the layers of meaning.
There are many talented producers, take a look at this for example. Clams Casino's track Palace (produced for ASAP Rocky) is an example that inspiration is taken from EVERYWHERE. The choir for example was taken from 0:38 in the 2nd video.

EDIT:
And while were on the topic of EDM and Hip-hop/Rap another producer AraabMUZIK wonderful combines both scenes and does his own take on songs, producing live beats with samples on an MPC, in a way its tuntablism done in a modern way manipulating something to produce new sounds. He's done both scenes types of music and used samples and inspiration from songs to produce his own styles using another artist as inspiration to make something new much unlike Will.I.Am. Its how one persons take on anothers work SHOULD be unlike these blatant rip offs this washed out asshole made.
