This movie was my childhood. I wasn't around when it was released, but I was bored one day at my grandmothers when I was younger and found this movie on VHS. I think I watched over 20 times and it's what got me into LOTR. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
lots of good memories watching this as a kid...though everyone in this series did somehow look like a potato.
I watched this in my English class after we read The Hobbit. And this was around the time when the LOTR movies were coming out. Good times.
Not going to watch this; it'll spoil the new movies that are coming out. I remember when I did the same thing when my 10 year old self was waiting for "Return of the King" to come out, so I had the ending spoiled. I couldn't help myself.
Good idea if you haven't read the book either.
Even if I wanted to, I couldn't read a book, dude. My ADD is severe. Having OCD isn't fun either, but you learn to cope with it. I think it's for the best, though. I can't wait for the new movie coming out. I've been waiting since 2003.
I hope it's good. I have a bad feeling though.

Honestly I thought the Hobbit movie sucked dick when it came out. That's just my personal opinion. I didn't feel it did any justice to the trilogy. Kinda like the Star Wars Christmas Special.

[editline]22nd October 2011[/editline] Smaug in this was amazing though, curious to see how Jackson will do him. Not to mention it'll be interesting to see how Jackson does the Wood Elves, wasn't this the same tribe Legolas was from?

Thanks. I never saw this. But i think it's too late for me to see the charm of this. I've already "subscribed" to the Peter Jackson version. Especially because of his usage and respect of the two main concept artists. [editline]23rd October 2011[/editline] So far it captures me with the darker mood that was in the Books. I hope the P.J. version will keep that too!
I have a pirated version on a disk somewhere, watched it the other day actually.
But the character design is horrible!
But the character design is horrible!
I agree, the Dwarfs don't look dwarfy
Don't look dwarfy in this or the the Peter Jackson movie?
Don't look dwarfy in this or the the Peter Jackson movie?
Peter Jacksons
I think they look good. You can't have 12 Gimli's because the audience would be confused.
I think they look good. You can't have 12 Gimli's because the audience would be confused.
My main gripe is the dude on the far right. I mean look at his non existent beard.
That's the one dwarf most of the fans dislike as well. Looks like they just threw a wig on the actor and that's it. Probably to have a sexy dwarf, but dwarves aren't supposed to be sexy. Maybe they'll explain the lack of beard in the movie :v:?
Got done reading The Hobbit this week. Honestly I wish I had of seen this before, because every time you watch a movie or play a game based on a book after you've read it you can't help but think at certain parts "I can't believe they left this out!" I have this on disc though.
My main gripe is the dude on the far right. I mean look at his non existent beard.
Only one I take issue with. Looks like Aragorn and Legolas fucked and had a short kid.
Think of it this way. When Peter Jackson staged that shot, he put the least dorfy dorf on the far right. I think he gets it. Just need some hot JC Penny model to put on posters so that general audiences will come see it.
I agree, the Dwarfs don't look dwarfy
I meant in THIS one. The Jackson dwarves are.. well. So far we only saw a few. Just because they seem to style themselves doesn't make them not part of the race. You have to take into account that The Hobbit is a childs adventure and it was quite obvious that Tolkien portrayed the characters as such. Some of them are MEANT to look funny. I just think that this old version looks downright ugly in the character department. just look at Bilbos eyes! Then at the two older dwarves foreheads. Then take a gander at Gollum.

Everyone in mine said Smaug looked like Wolverine
