Fossil fuels can help stop sexual assault, Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Thursday. The former Texas governor and presidential candidate, who was speaking at Axios and NBC News’ Energy in 2017 event, said using fossil fuels to bring electricity to African villages could have a positive impact on health and safety. “From the standpoint of sexual assault, when the lights are on, when you have light that shines, the righteousness, if you will, on those types of acts,” Perry said at the event, NBC reports. “So from the standpoint of how you really affect people’s lives, fossil fuels is going to play a role in that. I happen to think it’s going to play a positive role.” The energy secretary also said “the science is out” on whether humans are the primary driver of climate change, adding to June comments, as reported by CNBC, that “most likely the primary control knob is the ocean waters and this environment that we live in.”
http://time.com/5007787/rick-perry-fossil-fuels-sexual-assault/ What a fuckin' bastard, tbh.

Whoops, added.
I.. fucking... what?
:speechless: Wouldn't that theory hold true regardless of what source the power came from? Wouldn't it also be easier to install standalone solar installations in said African villages instead of all the infrastructure oil requires?? [editline]2nd November 2017[/editline]
“most likely the primary control knob is the ocean waters and this environment that we live in.”
such a misleading half-truth.
There is no bottom to how low these people go.
Good god, I think the irony meter is off the charts. The metaphor is just too good
:speechless: Wouldn't that theory hold true regardless of what source the power came from? The title of the article is so sensationalized and paraphrased it reminds me of a brietbart article. I can see why a more stable source like fossil fuels would be an excellent choice, but if they are starting with new infrastructure, you might as well just go renewables and cut out the switching over problem entirely.
What a creative, hilariously bad way to draw attention to an otherwise politically-boring topic.
Credibility nullified.
“most likely the primary control knob is the ocean waters and this environment that we live in.”
Wow gee fuckface guess what, you're kind of right, now would you like to know how much human activity is fucking around with that "primary control knob" you fucking shithead
It would hold true. The title of the article is so sensationalized and paraphrased it reminds me of a brietbart article. He states that having lights will stop sexual assault and we should use fossil fuels to power said lights. It's piggybacking off the hot topic issue of sexual assault that's come up recently to push an unrelated political agenda because he's bought out by oil companies.
Maybe he's trying to say that by providing electricity to impoverished African villages you give them the opportunity to develop into a first world country. Cultural norms that we take for granted (like it not being cool to sexually assault someone) in the first world are made possible because we don't have to worry about survival. When you're quite literally living meal to meal it's really hard to create the positive values that we have in developed nations because survival is of utmost priority and you don't have the time to think about the morality of sexual assault. Just my two cents, I haven't read the full article or watched his speech (I assume most other posters are in the same boat as me).
Dumb motherfucker is like, "ooooh, liberals care about sexual assault, so I'll tell them that fossil fuels prevent sexual assault and that will make them love fossil fuels again!"
Fucking what? So light is some sort of vampire rapist repellent? Is I Am Legend based on truth? :v:
What a creative, hilariously bad way to draw attention to an otherwise politically-boring topic.
sexual assault is a politically boring topic? Or is climate change? I'm not sure which one you're going for here either way I think you're completely wrong
See without those fossil fuels we wouldn't have flamethrowers, flamethrowers can help stop sexual assault, invest in big oil today. :v:
I.. fucking... what?
#RickPerryLogic
The energy secretary also said “the science is out” on whether humans are the primary driver of climate change
But seriously, this is fucking absurd.
Stopping sexual assault by the expedience of wiping us all out?
not to assail that unassailable logic about nothing bad ever happening with the lights on but fossil fuels are primarily the reason why africa's power system is shit, we have been building generators there for decades but when the money for fuel dries up the lights go out, unlike solar, wind and batteries which you put it down and it mostly just works and also unlike a generator, if a panel breaks they just replace it with another or cut back but the whole system still works, on a generator if it breaks its broken. to really fix rural africa's problems we need to think like they did in the 1800s and use local resources to make power
What a creative, hilariously bad way to draw attention to an otherwise politically-boring topic.
haha yeah, "creative" thank you rick perry for making science cool and shit, you know us millennials love inane snake oil-tier logic
Can’t have people going around sexually assaulting each other when we’re all dead from climate change.
sexual assault is a politically boring topic? Or is climate change? I'm not sure which one you're going for here either way I think you're completely wrong
Moreso just the ramblings of Rick Perry.
this is the guy who promised to get rid of that third agency, whatever it was...
Maybe the administration could drink fossil fuel on stage to show such features.
this is the guy who promised to get rid of that third agency, whatever it was...
It pains me to know that Rick Perry is still relevant after running this ad.
/snip probably not ontopic
I only have one question. Did I have a stroke, or did Rick Perry?
Credibility nullified.
Rick Perry never had any credibility lmao
Rick Perry never had any credibility lmao
But he has power and people who hold more power.
