Zach Galifianakis Interviews President Barack Obama
Barack Obama critiqued the Hangover films, Michelle Obama's husband choices and North Korea with Zach Galifianakis between the two ferns of the comedian's online chat show.
Galifianakis is known for this deliberately deadpan and provocative interviewing style on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, and he didn't let up on the US President, pressing him on the famously contentious issue of his birth certificate, being "the last black president" and his "home country of Kenya", as well as the healthcare reform act, which Obama had appeared on the show to encourage America's young people to sign up for.
This is one of those News that neither makes me angry nor sad. Obama is a cool president, going to an interview like this.
Between Two Ferns is hitting new levels, holy shit.
holy shit I love his deadpan interviewing style.
I'll never forget Zach smoking that joint on Bill Maher.
"How does it feel to be the last black president?"
"How does it feel knowing that I'm the last president you'll ever talk to?"
I'm sure they both have writers for those lines, but they were perfect.
It was pretty hilarious:

"It must kind of stink, though, that you can't run three times?"
"If I ran a third time it would be like doing a third Hangover movie. It didn't really work out very well, did it?"
"You pardoned a turkey in 2012, what are you going to do in 2014"
ahahaha
Obama looks so old now
Damn the stress of being president must be giant, he's gone grey and wrinkled in a few years
I do love the series!

It certainly has a bit to do with the stress that comes with his job, but a lot of it is simply going for a "look". In 2008 he was campaigning as a young, fresh candidate with new and innovative ways of running the nation, to contrast him with everyone else (old white guys). In 2012 he was going for a more "experienced" look. Now it doesn't really matter all that much what he looks like. Trust me though, there are people whose jobs are to make sure he looks a specific way depending on the situation at hand.
"what country were you rooting for in the winter olympics?"
"really? I'm the president of the united states, zach. what do you think."

Isn't the entire "interview" suppose to be written for them and they just have to act the part?
is it me or does it just seem like the whole interview was a vehicle for the healthcare.gov thing?
some of the humour felt pretty forced or just plain non-existent, but it was okay, maybe
not that the healthcare.gov is a bad thing of course and not to start a big huge debate

it's to make sense that obama even went to the interview, so he could "advertise" it or something.

The entire plug was part of the joke.
the entire conversation was so perfectly awkward
Just like every Between Two Ferns ever.

This going over the head of someone with an Ezra Koenig avatar is just shocking to me.

sorry I guess, just felt like adding my opinion
i mean, it's what occurred to me at the time but whatever, i'm obviously dumb if I'm not picking up on whatever you are

That's the whole point, they basically made a viral video for heathcare.gov.

Well thanks for making it more clear, I didn't know what the background context to the whole thing was, I literally just thought that Zach Galifianakis invited Obama on to do an interview, basically.
"Whats it like having a 3 inch vertical?"
"Its actually a 3 inch horizontal, so yeah."
why did they pull it from youtube?
[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
they pretty much blocked their own video?
The awkwardness ruined their delivery. Maybe it's just how they run the show, but it sounded like an argument instead of a comedy show.
Obamas delivery of the lines reminded me of Christopher Walken.
Especially how he glanced towards what I can only assume to be the cue cards.
"Sorry I had to cancel a few times, my mouse pad broke"
i actually wonder with this stuff if there was a prefab script involved, and if so, if obama simply vetted it or actually played a role in its formation
heck if the whole thing was just ad libbed that'd be incredible
