If you were a lab rat, you might already be thinking that you want another drink.

Scientists have spent the last five years serving up rodent-sized alcoholic drinks to hundreds of little black and white rats, after a nice hit of nicotine.
These miniature cocktail parties have provided a clearer view on why nicotine and alcohol are so often used, and abused, together.
"It's pretty well understood by most people that those who smoke are more likely to drink," John Dani, a professor of neuroscience at the Baylor College of Medicine, told Shots. "And these people are ten times more likely to abuse alcohol."

Hah, I drink too much, and I'm not a smoker. Take that, statistics!
This is pretty interesting, but I was kinda hoping the article would also explain why some people only smoke when they drink. I wonder if there is any correlation between the two.
Gotta love how the health section is "NPR Shots"
I don't smoke tobacco and barely drink, but I smoke weed.
Probably something to do with how I don't really enjoy being drunk, and cigarettes are shit for your everything.
I always assumed this was because of social pressure being about equal towards both of these things
if you're pressured in to smoking there's a fairly good chance you're going to be inducted in alongside alcohol

I hope you're proud of yourself.
If you drink and smoke together, well, ever, you've probably already realized that cigarettes have a relaxing effect on your buzz, and that you'll be more drunk without smoking. Article pretty much just confirms this.

I find that especially since I am not a regular smoker, the slight head rush from smoking clears my head and sobers me up slightly, which is quite pleasant.
