You'd think this would be more appropriate in the movies section? Wrong because they wouldn't care.
Start with the obvious....

Rock Star
Not really a biographic film, but some events that occured to Judas Priest inspired this movie.

the soundtracks written to this movie are just pure awesome

Great film, even if I'm not too keen on the music. Walk the Line and Ray are amazing,
There's that movie about that French singer. Actress was in Inception but I forget the name.
Supposed to be brilliant.
Metalocalypse.
Hands down.
Watched Ray on Friday, really enjoyed it.

La Vie en Rose, about the life of Edith Piaf, whose famous song appears in Inception and inspired the original score too :v:
The School of Rock? :v:
It had a great soundtrack.

Favela on Blast, a documentary about Brazil's Favela Funk genre. It's done by Diplo, my favourite DJ.

The Edge isn't amazing, but it terms of playing and writing he's leagues ahead of Jack White. He just needs to lay off on the delay for once
No one mentioned Wayne's World!?

It's driven by it. It has that sense that the soul always adds to the plot in nice ways.

Can't that be said about every movie that's had music composed specifically for it?
See: Just about all movies

Well yeah, but in these movies it's kind of "themed" by them.
Maybe not Jackie Brown though because it's plot is actually unique, but there are hints throughout.

The ear scene in Reservior Dogs wouldn't be nearly the same without Stuck in the Middle With You, hell, I can't think about the movie without singing Little Green Bag to myself. It still isn't music oriented.

Reservoir Dogs isn't a blaxploitation movie.
It's soundtrack isn't its driving point, get it?
Blaxploitation (or "blacksploitation") is a film genre which emerged in the United States circa 1971. These exploitation films were made specifically for an urban, black audience. The word itself is a portmanteau of the words "black" and "exploitation," and was coined in the early 1970s by the Los Angeles NAACP head, and ex-film publicist, Junius Griffin. Blaxploitation films were the first to feature soundtracks of funk and soul music and they featured a primarily black cast
Nowhere there does it say that the music is a "driving point". The music is ALWAYS a driving point, no matter what movie you're watching. The difference between a musical and a movie is that a MUSICAL has songs written specifically for it, and the cast generally performs it in character.
Movies had music in them before blaxploitation, movies were driven by music before blaxploitation. All blaxploitation is, is a movie that's meant to appeal to a black audience by using music that the majority of them liked at the time, and by using black actors. Just like Bollywood movies are made for a specific audience. And spanish movies. And noire movies. And animated movies. And war movies.
Blaxploitation ≠ Musical

It's just how I see it.
Do you hear Pulp Fiction having songs that refer to the characters in the movie itself? Nope.
Still a great soundtrack.

So you're saying that a movie with a good soundtrack is a musically oriented movie, but one with a less memorable one isn't, despite the fact that both movies use the soundtrack as a plot device to help set the mood etc.
