Russian troops are receiving beta versions of a future armored tracked platform that could usher in the 5th generation conventional land tank, heavy APC, artillery and missile launcher and possibly fully robotic assault armored vehicle.
After five years of development, the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation has finalized manufacture of the first batch of Armata tanks and heavy personnel carriers. They have been included in Russia’s 2015 defense order, TASS said.
Reportedly, 20 units have already been manufactured and issued to troops for hands-on training.
The platform’s chief tank (T-14) sports an unmanned remotely controlled turret armed with a brand new 125 mm 2A82-1M smoothbore cannon. Its muzzle energy is greater than one of the world’s previously considered best cannons: the German Leopard-2 Rheinmetall 120 mm gun.
The 125 mm gun has 15-20 percent improved accuracy and its rolling fire angular dispersion has improved 1.7 times.

(I know it's RT, but it's not exactly controversial/biased.)
Ukraine is a good testing ground I hear
Goddamn that concept video is some cheesy shit, inception soundtrack and all.
I cannot be bothered re-re-editing OP due to the character thing.. so I'll post this here:
A 12.5 mm turret-mounted heavy machine gun is reportedly capable of taking out incoming projectiles, such as anti-tank missiles. It’s capable of neutralizing shells approaching at speeds of up to 3,000 meters per second.
I'll see this before I believe it.. but, if this is legitimately capable of pulling it off then things just jumped to a whole new level of complex.
This is cool, I guess. Except for the fact that this would get turned into shredded cheese by an AGM?

Yes, but you can say this about pretty much every tank in the world. What's most impressive to me is that we're now looking at CIWS systems, but for tanks.
The Russians iirc actually already had a electronic countermeasure system for ATGMs, but the Armata can reputedly stop tank shells before they reach it.
Those 2 side guns look rad but not very maneuverable. Then again if you put them on top it creates a bigger target.
I wonder if the US will also update their MBT.

It's this but in HMG form

Which I have absolutely no idea how it'd be able to react if the shot came from the side/behind.

Obligatory epic music is obligatory. Really, this sond is so much overused i can't help smiling while watching this.
It looks like something from BF2142 or some other sci-fi. Not in a good way. There's no way in hell it actually looks like that.

Remember that concept video of a drone buggy and then when it was time to show what they had they presented Putin with a manikin in a helmet and a jumpsuit duct-taped to an ATV?
It looks like the US tank in Crysis with its super sloped turret and all.

That is incredibly impressive! How well does it work against projectiles coming from an angle? Like, in urban terrain, someone might fire the RPG from a rooftop or whatnot.

Watch it be just a T-90 with a big machine gun turret on top.
I have trouble believing the new tank can destroy incoming projectiles with any serious reliability. There is a reason most CIWS platforms are multi-barrelled and have fire rates in 5000 rounds/minute range.

Nah it's true, in the same vain that a fire hose is capable of taking out a tank that is sitting in a pool for a few hours.
It's possible, but unlikely.

New gadget for CoD confirmed.
Why would you not just mount the guns on top of the tank so they can independently swivel? What if you want to target multiple combatants and not just train 3 guns on one? This looks like a contraption from Star Wars...

It is meant to excite technology-naive Russians and fuel the national pride.
Still waiting for the Apocalypse tank.
Wheres our new Abrams variant?

It won't be as impressive because it'll be a practical design or maybe even just be an upgrade kit for the current Abrams.

If those renders are anything to go by, there's no Yaw axis on those guns. So Unless the turret has no one in it and can spin like a god damn CIWS, I call bullshit

Watch as the West starts producing Predator tanks (EU) and fucking Mammoth tanks (US)...

The turret IS unmanned.

Also, if the renders in the video are true, then it can swivel both the machineguns further to side (even tho it's obviously limited)

"Saw the new Armata tank today. Destroyed it with RPGs, captured the crew. All conscripts from Rostov. Couldn't take a photo, phone battery was dead"
