What's most impressive to me is that we're now looking at CIWS systems, but for tanks. The Russians iirc actually already had a electronic countermeasure system for ATGMs, but the Armata can reputedly stop tank shells before they reach it.

Those 2 side guns look rad but not very maneuverable. Then again if you put them on top it creates a bigger target. I wonder if the US will also update their MBT. How well does it work against projectiles coming from an angle? Like, in urban terrain, someone might fire the RPG from a rooftop or whatnot.

I have trouble believing the new tank can destroy incoming projectiles with any serious reliability. There is a reason most CIWS platforms are multi-barrelled and have fire rates in 5000 rounds/minute range.

It's possible, but unlikely.

Why would you not just mount the guns on top of the tank so they can independently swivel? What if you want to target multiple combatants and not just train 3 guns on one?
