• Help legalize Organ donation for inmates on death row.

The title says it, In the US inmates on death row can not donate organs. Here is the long version of the petition. [release]We should allow legal organ donation by inmates on death row; and make it a form of death penalty for criminals who agree to this method and are medically able to donate organs. Our current death penalty does not allow inmates on death row to donate organs. I believe that organ donation should be a form of death penalty. Even individuals who are against the death penalty should realize that this would be a better alternative to our current methods. Benefits to death by organ donation include: 1. Humane- With this method the individual would be put under anesthesia prior to the operation. The individual would feel no pain in their passing. 2. Organs save lives- The organs donated could be used to save lives. There are many people on transplant lists who may never find a donor. A single organ donor can save eight lives.* 3. Save tax Dollars- Insurance companies and the organ recipient pay for organ donations, this could save tax payers money that is currently used on expensive death penalty methods. Organ donation as a method of execution would be more humane and cost effective than our current methods. We have the opportunity to save innocent lives. Please inform yourself and please sign this petition. *http://www.organdonor.gov/why.asp[/release] How can I help? 1) Inform yourself 2) Discus/spread the idea with your friends/family/community 3)Sign the petition here! The petition becomes public after 150 votes before that it must be signed through direct linking, so if you guys can help me get to 150, then it should increase exponentially from there Current signatures from FP members imptastick, Painseeker, rsa1988, -GTFMiika-, Chezhead, MisterSjeiks
It's not legal yet? Seriously, it's a win-win situation.
So basically they put the death row inmate to sleep and kill them?
It's not legal yet? Seriously, it's a win-win situation.
The laws that made this illegal where made in a time before we truly understood donation. people thought if you got a killers kidney you would start murdering everyone.
So basically they put the death row inmate to sleep and kill them?
basically, they go to sleep and never wake up [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] if you guys want to post this on other sites/forums it would be a big help. here is the tinyurl http://*********com/6yh6fxq insert "tinyurl" where the **** are facepunch will not allow tinyurls apparently
As against the death penalty as I am, I support this as long as it's optional, not mandatory. If you're going to kill someone, might as well let them choose to help others.
They don't already do something like this? It seems like common sense.
They don't already do something like this? It seems like common sense.
nope, here are our current methods, which are more expensive and mostly inhumane http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/descriptions-execution-methods
As against the death penalty as I am, I support this as long as it's optional, not mandatory. It would need to be agreed on by both the inmate and a doctor to decide of the procedure should go through. Wait wait wait. Don't they kill them via lethal injection? If so, organ donation wouldn't work. The inmate's organs would have the same chemical used to kill them in it. It couldn't be implanted. It'd only work if they were killed by say electrocution, but that's inhumane.
let's actually just not do this and outlaw the death penalty already

Too bad there would be so many hard drug damaged organs, good idea though
Too bad there would be so many hard drug damaged organs, good idea though
That's why they would have to be approved by a doctor just like regular donars
I think this is an excellent idea. A lot of inmates are healthy. It would help save countless lives. As it stands now, numerous people die due to there being no donor for them.
I can see this being an exuse to keep the death penalty. They'll say "what about all the organs death row inmates would give, instead of rotting away with a prisoner sentenced to life." Like a couple others said here, we should try to get rid of the death penalty altogether.
This is not to debate the death penalty, this is about a better method.
the only better method of death penalty is no death penalty

Even with the death penalty, the prisons are running out of room. Sure, some room could be made if weed is decriminalized, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
the only better method of death penalty is no death penalty
If you want to debate the death penalty try here that's not what this thread is for
Or if America didn't incarcerate a stupid proportion of its population anyway. But thats another debate
the only better method of death penalty is no death penalty
the only better method of death penalty is sudden death penalty

keep saying that maybe somehow you'll convince me that modifying the death penalty is separate from the "death penalty debate"!!!
keep saying that maybe somehow you'll convince me that modifying the death penalty is separate from the "death penalty debate"!!!
Please I am asking you politely to not debate here. There is a debate thread for this now, http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1130356

I'm saying how making this being legal could be an argement for the death penalty. That is on topic for this thread.

Don't they use some sort of poison? Maybe that's why?
Don't they use some sort of poison? Maybe that's why?
this would be a new method using anesthesia and organ removal as execution method, not lethal injection
Actually he is against the death penalty which is already legal, his argument is actually the opposite of what you think My opinion is to let people already on death penalty choose to donate rather than die without helping anyone else
Oh, I thought I had read one of the most horrible suggestions on Facepunch. I didn't see his previous post.
What the actual FUCK. You want to legalize the death penalty so you can get more organ donors?
Actually he is against the death penalty which is already legal, his argument is actually the opposite of what you think My opinion is to let people already on death penalty choose to donate rather than die without helping anyone else
Signed it, I'm totally against the death penalty but if it's gonna happen it may as well help a good cause at the same time.
It's better then nothing but it's like taking a life to save a life.
