I still remember sitting in front of my old TV playing Halo 2 on XBOX Live. It was the best and most enjoyable game I have ever played in my entire life.
It became a shadow of it's former self because they continued the story when it didn't really need to be continued, it's just become mediocre.

I'm not even sure that splitscreen in the new games could even bring back those memories. Everyone who played it like that as a kid is an adult now. I was in 5th grade when I first played halo, now I'm 23 and my friends and I would rather play super smash bros when we can all get together
the halo 5 story sucked a lot of butts, however i haven't had this much fun with halo multiplayer since 3 so it's definitely got that going for it

yeah the MP keeps getting better and better. I like getting drip fed content over time because it keeps me coming back every month.

The prequels / side storys were alright, i actually really liked reach perhaps morso than 2 and 3 combined. But none of them beat the first time i rode a warthog around the silent cartographer level. That level alone is what made me buy an Xbox, i sold my bloody PS2 and nearly everything i had for it just so i could get Halo.
I can't stand the art design of 343's halo games either. Take the designs of the spartan armors for example. The bungie ones all have a functional military looking design, while some the unique ones 343 designed look like an anime fever dream.

Thats because its pretty much made up of the people who used to make Fanfictions of 1 2 and 3, that cringeworthy stuff you find lying around on DA and stuff.

They milked the ever living fuck out of it. I played the shit out out of Halo for Xbox and Halo CE for PC.
The only thing i prefer feeling wise is 343's sound design, it's much punchier than bungie and the weapons feel pretty good because of it(except for some of the covenant sounds)
Everything else though I prefer bungie, including the music. The new ones have so many little changes and differences in atmosphere that makes them feel like they are a different universe to me or something.

Man this game was really one of those games that define your childhood. I dont think there was so much hype for a single game that there was for Halo 3. It was insane. EVERYONE had a 360 and everyone played Halo 3. An integral part of my life that I'll never forget.
There is so much fucking lore in the Halo universe, I feel like there are dozens of other directions that 343 could have taken while keeping the story good. Multiplayer in H5 is actually amazing, but the story hasn't been good since Reach.

God, yes. It may only be 30 FPS but somehow it manages to be one of the best looking games I've ever seen, even on console.
IMO the best way to describe Destiny is that its the single most amazing 7/10 game I've ever played.

Oh dude, I haven't seen that in a while. This was on the extra DVD that came with the metal case edition of Halo 2.
I used to watch this all the time, back before I had access to the internet and I would watch shit like this until I knew it line by line.
I've never been a fan of Halo (read: didn't hate it, just didn't care about it) and only played Halo 1 and 3 but, holy shit, there is a hilariously clear difference between the Bungie Halo games and the 343 Halo games in that video. The difference in design from how characters look to how combat played out to what was happening in cut scenes was just so obvious that the two companies had zero overlap as to what made their games what they were.
My childhood was defined by Halo 2 mostly. I loved Halo 1 but Halo 2 consumed years of my life. Infact, Halo 3 came out and it was good but it sort of marked the end of my recluse stage. After Halo 3 came out I left the house more and got real friends and a life. Before than I literally would play Halo 2 day in and day out for years.
You can have the voice actors, the lore, the worlds. You can have the assets, the gameplay at its core, and some of the same general gameplay. Even return to classic musical motifs, and appeal to the fans.
But without the drive and soul that made Halo what it was, combined with doing nothing in its own unique spirit to differentiate it from the rest of the market as well as being doomed by Microsoft to a console that just isn't as popular this generation, it just isn't really worth the effort or money to go out of my way anymore.
And anyone from the Halo general thread would be able to make paragraph-long rants about all the ways 343 fucked the series up, but for me, it was that shortly after 343 took over, they suddenly explained the mysterious Forerunners in-depth and added a bunch of pointless backstory into the canon involving the origin of the Flood, prehistoric humans, and so forth. And you were expected to know some of this for Halo 4 because, above all else, [i]it's vital backstory for the main antagonist.[/i] It only got more ridiculous from there.

Honestly I dont think the idea of continuing the story past 3 was a bad idea by itself, its just that 343 has been handling the writing poorly and their artists cant capture the same feeling that the original games had.
I got the Xbox solely to play Halo: CE (and Halo 2). I also bought the Xbox 360 to complete Halo 3 and then I returned it to the store for a full refund. :---)
