Um...Yeah, i'm new to forums so cute me some slack if I have trouble figuring these things out right away.
I'm a 16-year-old video game loving nerd who is trying to better my art skills, and deviantART really wasn't giving me any good critiques.
So...I thought I'd try this out :)
So where's the art?
came in expecting an attempt at art.
GIMMEH ART >:(
Images aren't posting from my computer or any of the URLs I try.. ._. this is why I avoided forums so long. Sorry, help please? (I know it's a bit sad)
Well I hope your dedicated because becoming a good artist takes a long long time unless you have a lot of innate skill. If you dont have that much innate skill then you gotta work for it...

'kay, I'm hoping this works.
Attempted Self-Portrait from a week or two ago, still needs practice ^^;

Here's another try at realism, one of my zombie characters.

Sorry for the massive file size;;
Well i'm not a scene kid or anything. Just a character of mine^
I'd just like some critiques because I wasn't getting many on dA. ._.
looks fine to me, but the gauges make me want to bring a bat around his head a few times
For critic I will say work on the proportions more? It's really hard to say since your drawings are a mix of cartoons and realistic styles. You should post your art here http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1095246-Creative-Work-That-Doesn-t-Deserve-A-Thread/page57 If you want critic.
Well.. as a character, he starts out as kind of a whiny, angsty, emo kid, which is why he ends up dead. My story isn't the greatest, but I like creating characters

also, thank you for the link to the thread. Still trying to get used to it here;

This is a much older picture, one of the first realisms I ever attempted (and it's hardly realistic at that)

at least you're not pretentious about your art
Your good atleast I think that.
I don't see the point in being pretentious about it. I mean, i'm an ok artist, but i'm really not exceptional or amazing.. I just do it because I like to, whether i'm good at it or not
With how the thread started out I must say I was pleasantly surprised when you posted your artwork. You should post the reference you used for your self portrait so we can do a better critique. On your zombie character the anatomy could use a little work at the base of the neck, it seems as if there is a large bump or something. Your style still seems to be developing, but I think if you keep working at it you could get really good at this.
I'll see if I can dig the original reference pic for the self portrait out of my files, but thank you :)
here we go,
Same Self-Portrait, but it's before I added the slight color fix. It has the original ref in the corner.

The colors look a bit different but that could just be personal choice of using a different color scheme. There is a bit of a point on the bottom of your chin that isn't there in the reference photo. And the shading around the mouth looks a bit to heavy, especially under the glasses and lips.
I hope this helps

lolno

In your selfportrait you should try and outline the skull - You'll see it's rather egg-shaped compared to your actual skull shape. You should also add some more meat to the headphones. A good idea would be to have a mirror and your headphones around as you draw. A picture is one thing, but it only gives you a one-lens dimension.
With a 3-dimensional figure (which you will see if you're not blind on one eye) you get a much better sense of depth in your character. (Fittingly, you wear 3-D glasses)
And trust me, it matters. A good art teacher can point out which images were made from real life references and which are from pictures.

in my opinion, the shading on the face is a little much. too dark
you ever thought about painting textures? With a bit more practice, it is conceivable that that is a way you could make a little money.
Get rid of your outlines.
Outlines are what make this less "realistic"
