The New York Times on Sunday took the unusual step of requesting an apology from a competitor, asking "Fox & Friends" to retract a report that the Times was to blame for the 2015 escape of an ISIS leader.
"I am writing on behalf of The New York Times to request an on-air apology and tweet from Fox & Friends in regards to a malicious and inaccurate segment “NY Times leak allowed ISIS leader to slip away,” wrote Danielle Rhoades Ha, vice president of communications for the New York Times.
The "Fox & Friends" report, which aired Saturday, apparently spurred a tweet by President Donald Trump: “The Failing New York Times foiled U.S. attempt to kill the single most wanted terrorist, al-Baghdadi,” the president wrote later Saturday. “Their sick agenda over National Security.”
In her request, Rhoades Ha added: "Neither the staff at Fox & Friends, nor the writers of a related story on Foxnews.com, appeared to make any attempt to confirm relevant facts, nor did they reach out to The New York Times for comment."
This lie strikes me as a really dangerous step down the road of saying "national security demands that we clamp down on the press"
Why isn't there laws against straight up lying when something calls itself "news"? Or "president"? I know history is written by the winners, and that "leaders" get more leeway, but this is ridiculous.
On a more ironic note, IIRC, isn't Fox literal "fake news"? They had to say they were entertainment or face a lawsuit?
And they get away with this by claiming to be entertainment television rather than real news while still masquerading as a fact-checking news source. They need to be held accountable for libel and defamation.

They claim to be "Infotainment" to get around that.

If they don't claim to be real news, they shouldn't be treated like one. Don't give them a spot at press briefings, give their questions the same level of effort you'd give any random jackoff, and don't let them claim freedom of press in court (freedom of speech, sure, but as I understand it, FoP has some extra protections that should come with extra requirements).
Oh, and let people sue them for false advertising whenever they call themselves real news.
Fox news is trash, but I'm not going to pretend to have a bleeding heart for the news organization who outed a spy on purpose, even when told not to by the CIA.

Regardless of what you think of them, it's a load of bullshit that Fox can make claims like that.
Oh I was wondering what this shit was about.

Misinformation is pretty fucking dangerous.

Good idea, but it's too bad their #1 fan is the only person in charge of those decisions.
I still can't believe such blatant misinformation and propaganda is streaming from the leader of our country.
Not to imply it didn't happen before, but this is some next level shit.
