http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21367852
Exploits in the bestselling video game Dead Space 3 are allowing users to obtain in-game items for free. The "cheats" could prove costly to the title's publisher, Electronic Arts (EA), which has introduced a system that charges users cash for extra equipment in the sequel. The move has proved controversial with some, since the title already costs about £40. EA has the ability to issue an update to remove the workarounds. However, a spokesman said the firm had no comment on the issue.
Wait, it's out already? I had no idea. Hilarious, though. Nice one, EA.

This microtransaction bullshit is a cancer upon the video game industry.
I honestly believe that a dev at Visceral put these "bugs" in there on purpose just to try and fuck with EA a little.
lol, "cheats can prove costly to the title's publishers" yeah, ok. its not like the already existing content that they are hocking is 100% profit. im pretty sure that for something to be costly, there has to be work and money put into it
I can't help but wonder if some disgruntled employees at EA intentionally left this in.
"cheat"
Watch as EA does a shitty scan that bans people who did the exploit, and people who happened to play with people who did the exploit like in ME3. And when i mean ban i mean permabanned from sp and mp.
oh jeez its like they'll have to rely on sales of the game itself god help us all when people get 60 dollars worth of content for 60 dollars!
Wouldn't it also be possible to find the value of the resources in Cheat Engine then go "LOLOL REPLACE 1 WITH 9 MILLION" and have a fuckload of free things
Wouldn't it also be possible to find the value of the resources in Cheat Engine then go "LOLOL REPLACE 1 WITH 9 MILLION" and have a fuckload of free things
Real money related things are generally server side.
They will patch it.. :(
Real money related things are generally server side.
But the purchases are just for MORE resources, they are in the game already for free Its not even hard to find the value to something like that in Cheat Engine, what an awful system

It's incredibly easy to overlook a bug during development and QA runs. Most AAA releases have similar or worse ones. It was a simple oversight that is only making news because it's related to microtransactions.
Real money related things are generally server side.
Not really, so far the track record has been bad:
Remember that the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer rewards that cost real life money to get were using 100% client side validation. This is EA's dynasty of development, if it works mostly then it is good enough for 90% of the saps out there.

I can't help but wonder if some disgruntled employees at EA intentionally left this in.
"If I'm getting my salary cut from $3.80/hour to $1.16/hour I'm going to show you assholes that you get what you pay for."
This microtransaction bullshit is a cancer upon the video game industry.
If it's used to essentially buy power, give an advantage over users who don't buy the products, divides the playerbase, or make things too easy, then it ain't kosher. But if it's cosmetic stuff like skins, soundpacks, hats and whatnot, then it's ethical and honourable, since you don't need to look flash in order to kick ass. Things like XP boosters are probably straddling the fence. However, and this is probably a weird concept, but what about buying things that make your game harder, like adding extra difficulty options or handicaps to make your experience tenser and harder to succeed in? It'd probably be great for fans of games with roguish or survival-horror elements, since there's a lot of money in the market of people who want more of a challenge in their games. Games like Super Meat Boy, Binding of Isaac, Dungeons of Dredmor, XCOM and so-on are pretty hardcore games, and some folks LOVE things to be hard in just the right ways.
oh jeez its like they'll have to rely on sales of the game itself god help us all when people get 60 dollars worth of content for 60 dollars!
watch as they permanently ban everyone who uses the exploit from origin

There's no way that's a "Glitch", someone must of programmed it in to piss off someone in a bigger seat.

EA: "STOP PIRATING OUR GAMES :(" Buy the game, use this glitch. EA: "YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY EXTRA TO GET THE FULL EXPERIENCE?!" Banned
