Moammar Gadhafi is making preparations for a departure from Libya with his family for possible exile in Tunisia, U.S. officials have told NBC News, citing intelligence reports.
One official suggested it was possible that Gadhafi would leave within days, NBC News reported.
The information obtained by NBC News follows a series of optimistic statements this week from U.S. officials that Gadhafi would soon give up the five-month-old fight and and leave Libya.
In an on-camera forum at the National Defense University this week, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said, “I think the sense is that Gadhafi’s days are numbered.”
The officials could provide no further details as to conditions or precise timing for Gadhafi’s departure, NBC said, and the news report emphasized that there was no guarantee that Gadhafi would follow through on any plans to flee.
About time yeah?

Finally.
We need to capture him.
Don't get your hopes up
"news report emphasized that there was no guarantee that Gadhafi would follow through on any plans to flee."

Most important part of this article
Yeah I know, but there's still a chance.
He's to stubborn to leave.
He's actually going on holiday. Found some cheap flights on kayak.com
Odd that he would go to Tunisia of all places.
The guy is too arrogant to leave he wouldn't want to be considered a coward.
I hope they cavity search him with sharp, rusty prongs, before he gets on.
There's no way he's leaving. He knows he'll be killed if he does.
It's all just conjecture though. Him making plans to leave doesn't necessarily mean that he is, he might just be taking precautions to get out of country ASAP if it all goes pear shaped for him.
what's to stop him being arrested as soon as he gets off the plane? NATO might not want to get involved but I'm pretty sure they know the rebels don't have an interpol
Let's not forget this isn't the first, second, nor third time we've heard similar news. We'll just have to wait and see if he actually follows through this time.
There's no way he's leaving. He knows he'll be killed if he does.
he'll probably be killed even if he stays.
Wasn't it reported that he was going to leave ages ago and he never did?
Odd that he would go to Tunisia of all places.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Tunisians started bitching about it.
"No, go send your asshole leader somewhere else, we don't want him. We just got rid of our own for christ's sake!"
Just like those 5 peace treaties.
Quick! Assassinate him while he's packing so we can make a funny one-liner!
He should hang with Kim in North Korea.
He should hang with Kim in North Korea.
But Kim's a douche. He doesn't let anybody play on his air hockey table!
There's a reason he's so ronery.
Hopefully CIA captures him on the flight and then molest him with hot iron or some other stupid violence fantasy of Facepunch happens upon him.
Find the ship he'll be sailing on and bomb it just like the British did with that troop carrier.

I wonder how he'd respond to that?
Gaddafi's batshit, though. he'd probably make them a sandvich and fly away on his magic banana.
Odd that he would go to Tunisia of all places.
Only way out, without having to travel hundreds of km through rebel held area.
Although I suspect the now democracy loving Tunisians would not be too happy about him fleeing via their country.
He's dead if he leaves, they won't let him live. And he's dead when the rebels get to him.
He's pretty much universally hated. Imagine what it would be like if Pakistan hated Bin-Laden and everybody knew his location 24/7.
That's the situation Gaddafi's in right now.
I'm confused here.
Tripoli is cut off by sea, air, and nearly by land. How is he going to leave?

He is going to disguise himself as an American pvt and go through enemy lines.

And then he'll save a Marine's life and get a Medal of Honor, and beginning his undercover life as a GI.
Hell, that actually sounds like a plot for some kind of award-winning book.
Brb Microsoft Word.

But in the end he was just trying to destroy us all
