Oh damn I didn't know HOI 4 was even released. Used to play Victoria 2 with a friend all the damn time, grand strategy games are a nightmare to get into with but the payoff huge. Definitely gonna buy this when it's on sale thanks to those awesome tutorials. Well done man, looking forward to advanced strategy tutorials!

It is $39.99 USD and you can get it for 25% off on GMG with the code IRON25 https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/hearts-of-iron-iv/
Oh god I never understood Hearts of Iron, easily one of the most complicated games I ever tried to play. Seems like a really great game though.

I would have all Paradox games in my library right now if not for the awful DLC practices. I would recommend any newcomer to buy the older titles, instead. Like Victoria 2 or Darkest Hour (IMHO, the best HOI game. Made by the community with official support, and has zero DLC.) Don't be fooled by the much prettier visuals, if you're going to play a game like that for how it looks, it's not your cup of tea to begin with. If you are going to buy the new HOI game, though, ready your wallet for this: Granted, mostly it's useless crap like additional songs and unit sprites and faces (yes, they sell those), but the proper expansions are plentiful too. Paradox games are considered not worth the money without them, so please know that you may be buying a very bare-bones version of the game, compared to what they will release in the future as DLC. On the other hand, if you're pretty serious about war, take a look at Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations. It's "only" 80 bucks, but there are no DLC, it's extremely in-depth, and offers most of the units, from infantry to satellites from the last and present century. Not trying to shit on the new HOI, just wanted to inform the people who are new.

Because it is piecemeal you don't realise how much you've paid for the game a couple of years down the line. And at least with EU4 the pricing and the content provided for the price is a bit of a hit and miss although I am not up in arms as some people are. In the end though, especially with sales and stuff I find them quite good.
I love that the focused on reducing the micromanagement with the battleplan system. Just tell what the AI should do and let them do it, and you can intervene if you want to.
You can lower the price extremely by buying only the essential expansion packs and units packs for the countries you play (hint: in HoI you will rarely see them anyway) and as with any steam DLC wait for a sale.
I don't believe Paradox will be able to push out that many DLCs with something as focused as Hearts of Iron 4. Not to mention that you can make your own sprites for it now.

[editline]3rd June 2016[/editline] not to mention they've already gutted the unique sprites for all major nations to be used as Pre-Order DLC. like while sprites don't matter much in the long run its a terrible fucking practice
This looks like something I can understand compared to HoI3

Paradox has been on a roll lately, they've been killing it
Oh god I never understood Hearts of Iron, easily one of the most complicated games I ever tried to play. Seems like a really great game though.
You should try Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron game it's a bit easier and quite fun.

Some people don't like all the extra micro in 3 but you would be foolish to say it's just worse. Lots of people have no interest in going back after 3. And with regards to graphics, even in a game like this I like looking at the prettier maps and UI designs, as opposed to the ugly mess that is pre-HoI3 paradox games. You could use the same argument for pretty much any software out there, why care about looks when the functionality is there?
Anyone else think that the American general on the thumbnail/game cover looks like Bruce Willis?
That's Douglas MacArthur.
Wow so it is. Damn that's some doppelganger shit. [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline] After some googling looks like it's really just that photo that makes him look like Bruce Willis.
Maybe Bruce Willis just looks like Douglas MacArthur.
