Here's an odd one: a Chinese mining company has bought Runescape developer Jagex for $300m. That's according to the Financial Times and DealStreetAsia, which reports Shandong Hongda Mining Co Ltd, a ferrous metal mining firm that produces iron powder, copper powder and iron ore, picked up the British game company. Jagex told Eurogamer it had yet to sign on the dotted line, but it looks like that's all that's left to do. Here's a statement: Jagex has entered into a non-exclusive, non-binding arrangement for a potential acquisition. The negotiations surrounding the acquisition are ongoing and it remains very much business as usual for the Company.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-15-chinese-mining-company-buys-runescape-dev-for-usd300m-report http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/china-shandong-buys-out-uk-game-developer-jagex-for-300m-34182/ Was not expecting this.
Maybe the mining company can make more money through virtual mining in the Runescape economy than the real one? The Chinese do sell gold for good prices in Runescape after all.
Well, I had a look at runescape recently its change a lot since runescape 1 and actually looks very good. Runescape 3 has a lot going for it now.
A Chinese mining company? That's.. very strange.
They're investing in gp mining. [editline]15th March 2016[/editline] i miss 05scape.
I really fucking hope not. When have the chinese ever had a positive impact on games?
Saw it an hour ago. I only hope the best for Jagex.
I really fucking hope not. When have the chinese ever had a positive impact on games?
League of Legends seems to be going strong after the chinese company Tencent aquired it.
mining lvls?
I really fucking hope not. When have the chinese ever had a positive impact on games?
they probably realized that it's easier to just buy the damn company instead of producing a knockoff
trying to reverse-engineer Runescape bots and apply them to real life employees
oh hey maybe they will put Ace of Spades out of its misery finally
gotta get in on that runite farming
They should acquire CS:GO and Dota 2 from Valve. They could branch into salt mining from that.
What's with unrelated chinese companies buying game companies recently, like it's only a few months ago where a chinese poultry company bought Digital Extremes(Warframe)
League of Legends seems to be going strong after the chinese company Tencent aquired it.
Riot was doing fine, and would do fine regardless of Tencent. Not that we'll ever truly know since Tencent acquired the overwhelming majority of the company in a year's time of League's release date. Having it under Tencent just allows League to be far more prominent in the Chinese market, it has little bearing elsewhere in the world.
What's with unrelated chinese companies buying game companies recently, like it's only a few months ago where a chinese poultry company bought Digital Extremes(Warframe)
they look at lol and think wow big money here
Panic sell wands :ohno: I honestly don't think anything major will really happen. Couldn't be much worse than IVP.
What's with unrelated chinese companies buying game companies recently, like it's only a few months ago where a chinese poultry company bought Digital Extremes(Warframe)
china/korea has a thing about their large corporations blanketting into like -everything-
We're used to shitty shareholders and investors If we survived IVP we'll survive this
oh hey maybe they will put Ace of Spades out of its misery finally
Jagex were the worst when they did what they did to Ace of Spades, at least the old community is still alive, playing on the last clients and a new open source alternative.
mining lvls?
65.
legalise botting
They want in on the pure ess market.
A Chinese mining company? That's.. very strange.
A chicken supplier bought the warframe devs
