Libyan rebels fighting for control of the capital Tripoli have met strong resistance from pro-Gaddafi forces.
The rebels, who launched an all-out assault on Sunday, say they now control the vast majority of the city.
But fighting still rages in several parts of the city. A convoy advancing from the west was forced to pull back.
The son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Saif al-Islam, whom the rebels had said had been arrested, appeared at a hotel held by pro-Gaddafi forces.
The BBC's Matthew Price, who is staying at Hotel Rixos and spoke to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in the early hours of Tuesday, said he appeared buoyed up and full of adrenalin.
Saif al-Islam said the rebels had fallen into a "trap" in Tripoli, and that pro-Gaddafi forces had broken their backbone.
He had been widely seen as his father's future successor. On Sunday the rebels claimed they had captured him, along with other members of his family.
Asked if Col Gaddafi was safe and in Tripoli, Saif al-Islam replied: "Of course."
The Libyan leader's whereabouts are still unclear. His sprawling Bab al-Azizia compound is being defended by loyalist troops.
A diplomatic source told AFP news agency that Col Gaddafi could still be there. He has not been seen in public for months, although he has broadcast audio messages from undisclosed locations.
In a message broadcast late on Sunday, the Libyan leader urged residents to "save Tripoli" from the rebels.

:( Apparently Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi broke out or was released by Rebels who supported Gaddafi.
Saif al-Islam said the rebels had fallen into a "trap" in Tripoli, and that pro-Gaddafi forces had broken their backbone.
A trap, maybe. But I don't think their backbone is broken while they hold 95% of the country and have the indefinite support of NATO.
Gaddafi is done for, but I think he will go out with and bang, and allot of casualities. I don't know if this is a trap, but I think he has something planned.
rebels who support Gaddafi is a oxymoron...

I'm still wary of chemical weapons.
NATO should have finished the job back when he first started shit.

What if he has the city rigged with Sarin gas. God that would be horrible :ohdear:

Surely someone would have noticed that by now, right? ..Right?
rebels who support Gaddafi is a oxymoron...
I dunno, it's a time when the interim government is beginning to take over control of the country, so if they're the legitimate governing body then those supporting Gaddafi are rebels.

Not if these rebels are the ones looking.
Man, this is getting intense.

Good point.
for some damn reason i keep mistaking Gaddafi as Gandhi every time i see his name
If I remember rightly, Gaddafi is supposed to have access to Mustard Gas. I hope like hell he hasn't, or isn't enough of a bastard to use it.
NATO should have finished the job back when he first started shit.
One word. Politics, too much politics behind it.
It really is only a matter of time now. The rebels better finish this quickly before Gaddafi does something big.

You must be mistaking him for the Gandhi Civilization portrays.

yea, what exactly happens if he wins?
he's got bombs under the residential districts

Its actually very simple to make mustard gas, I wouldn't be surprised.
You could do it in your kitchen with the right ingredients, but you didn't hear that from me :tinfoil:
yea, what exactly happens if he wins?
He's not going to, it's basically just a last stand now. Like it was said before, the rebels control most of the country. I was just saying hopefully he doesn't try to end it with a bang.

You mean like those crystal instructions that have been going around for a while?
(Cause I was stupid enough to try that the first time I saw it. Fortunately I can't measure worth shit.)
Anyway, I remember hearing that most of his bio/chem weapons are on a ranch in Eastern Libya, under rebel control. I think it's reasonably unlikely he has any saved up, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Only my own stupidity saved me in the end.
You'd have to be quite the asshole to come up with that sadistic idea for a "prank". I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few people were killed trying it.

It's all fun and games until someone gets injured or killed. And then things get serious and odds are the police will get involved.
'Course that image is so old I doubt the person who made it, let alone the original source that first hosted it, could be traced.
