Last year Andrew Linn, of Nevada, crashed his car into a fence and was struck in the mouth by a metal pole that went right through the back of his neck. Surprisingly, he’s alive to talk about it.
Linn doesn’t remember much of anything about the crash. The accident happened on November 29.
“You can see on my nose it came in here, went through and came out the back here,” said Linn, looking over an x-ray.
Linn saw that x-ray for the first time Tuesday morning.
“The hardest thing has been opening the mouth and learning how to eat and swallow. Drinking is really difficult.”
Linn says he probably fell asleep when he crashed his car after getting a late-night snack.
Linn passed between two utility polls, crossed the street and jumped the curb before hitting a trailer in a neighbor’s yard.
Dr. Jay Coates, who performed the surgery, says had the pole struck Linn a few centimeters in either direction, he would have bled to death.
“Where the pipe traversed his neck, the obvious injures we were concerned about were the major vessels; the carotid artery and the major vein,” Dr. Coates said.
Luckily for his patient, Dr. Coates says the pole compressed the major vessels and didn’t puncture them.
Linn is now living each day to the fullest. “I have a second chance. I spend a lot of time with my kids. I love my wife and my kids, my family, my parents, my siblings. I just make the most of everything.”
Linn is no stranger to cheating death.
In 2008, his car was struck when a driver ran a stop sign, giving him neck and back problems.
In 2009, he was honorably discharged from the Marines after serving in Iraq.

:damn:
That could have so very easily killed or completely paralyzed him. Lucky guy.
After reading thread title, I thought "pfffshh, I could survive that too with a little luck"
then I saw the picture
I'm sorry, but he FELL ASLEEP and that caused the crash? Amazing that he's still alive after that.
I know the feeling.
Surviving a horrid car crash not a few months ago, it really does paint a new perspective in my life. Please love your family people because I was as that close like him.
God damn
God dammit, I rated rainbow. I meant to rate heart because I feel bad for him, not because it's in a badly placed area.
He's got some bad luck.

That must fucking suck to wake up and realize that you crashed your car and have a pole through your neck
[sp]because he wouldn't have woken up during the crash[/sp]
"Aaw good god! Aaaawww! Jeez! Aaaw!"
My thoughts.
Reminds me of that guy who got impaled by a board of wood that fell off a car he was passing.
Impaled almost his entire torso and it was a monster huge piece of wood, sadly I can't find anything on it, saw on TV's deadliest accidents or some shit, they even had pics of it and i can't find em! :argh:

Discovery channel? I know they had a show with a guy called Ron Pitts.

Surviving a pole impaled through the head isn't something I would call bad luck.
Just a flesh wound.

Bad luck - getting impaled in the first place
Good luck - surviving it
For some reason this reminds me of that scene from the end of Hot Fuzz, where the guy gets impaled on the miniature church roof. :v:
