They didn't want CoD to go modern, they thought it would ruin the series, the massive success of CoD4 is what caused them to "HOLY FUCK MILK THE SHIT OUT OF IT"
IMO MW2 was rushed, and the extra 2-6wks that IW wanted could have saved it
I say fuck'em. Infinity ward can go and get published by someone cool like THQ or Steam, or even Bethesda. Any number of them would gladly jump on the opportunity.

See, I told you Activision was an asshole and that what he (Kotick) had said a year or so ago wasn't all bullshit, he's actually doing it.
If Kotick (or whoever is in charge over there) has any sense, he pays them now. If he procrastinates, it'll end up with IW going to court over it and they'll not only have 0 chance of winning, but their reputation will be down the shitter too.

They could, but by the sound of things their employment contract means that they get paid royalties on a yearly basis (but only if they still work for IW). Imagine working for minimum wage as a video game developer for almost two years with the promise of massive royalties after release. That's the situation these guys are in. They're not going to quit until they get their money.
