"He was just walking on the sidewalk as he does all the time," said his son, Chirag Patel, this morning. "They put him to the ground."
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/02/indian_citizen_stopped_by_madi.html Walking while brown, the worst crime of them all. /s On a personal note, I hope IA and a good lawyer reams their ass for this. What kind of threat could an elderly man possibly pose to the police where they resort to shit like this?
Is there any reason at all of why they did it? Not wanting to defend the cops but hell there must be at least something to justify why they assaulted him.
Is there any reason at all of why they did it? Not wanting to defend the cops but hell there must be at least something to justify why they assaulted him.
Because he is brown. It's alabama is there any other reason?
Is there any reason at all of why they did it? Not wanting to defend the cops but hell there must be at least something to justify why they assaulted him.
They've apparently declined to comment or release the names of the cops involved. In the meantime, a person close to the son of the assault victim had this to say:
I am an acquaintance of Chirag, the man's son. What Madison police did was reprehensible, and the only crime this man was guilty of is walking while brown. He was enamored with the beauty and cleanliness of his son's neighborhood, and it was his habit to take walks through it for his health and good spirits. When police couldn't bridge the language barrier and he tried to lead them to Chirag's house, they tackled him to the ground, smashing his spine and breaking several vertebrae. Once they realized that he had been seriously injured (he could no longer sit upright), they cleaned the grime and dirt off of him as best as they could, then sent him off to the hospital. None of them thought to try to find his son. It wasn't until later that the hospital got in contact with Chirag and told him about his father's condition. Now they're trying to say that he was in people's driveways, looking in people's garages. He was walking along the sidewalk, looking all over the place. How do you not walk through someone's driveway when it intersects the sidewalk? Do you expect people walking by to keep their heads turned away if you leave your garage open? This whole affair stinks to high heaven, and all of us who know Chirag are hoping with all our might that the linebacker-sized man who tackled Chirag's petite father to the ground gets punished for his negligence/animosity/whatever it was. A man so quick to resort to violence has no place as a public servant. Edit: Thanks so much for all the visibility, everyone. Chirag doesn't know I've posted this (or if he does, he hasn't mentioned it), but I know he'd be happy to see that the country he had such faith in isn't nearly as terrible as it might have seemed on Friday. I do want to mention one other sad side-effect of this whole affair. Chirag had been working to get his mother to the States too, but now she's too terrified to come. She thinks that if they're willing to paralyze her husband for going for a walk, who knows what they'd do to her? Up until now, she was just as excited as Mr. Patel was about coming to America to meet her grandchild and help the couple with their new baby. Now she doesn't dare. What a great day to be an American. :(
This hit home for me because my dad does the same (goes for walks around the neighborhood, he's a diabetic so it's important for him to get exercise and control his sugar levels) when he goes to the US to stay with my sister and her family. I'd be pretty fucking infuriated if someone did this to my dad, especially someone you are expected to trust as a person who is there to serve and protect. Even more so if the reason was solely because you were brown and nothing else. How the fuck was it an appropriate reaction for them to do this without even being able to properly communicate with the guy? The mind, it boggles. Also, in his case, he told them repeatedly "No English" which was the only thing he knew how to say in English and tried to lead them to his son's house when this happened.
You can get away with murder if you've got a badge, I'm sure they will get away with it for some shitty made up reason. Why does human trash like this exist anyways? Shit like this really brings me down, sometimes I think the apocalypse should just happen already,
Because he is brown. It's alabama is there any other reason?
I often like to think that we as a species have moved beyond such idiocy but seeing shit like that really does make me think otherwise.
Do cops need to be violent to feel masculine or strong? I mean from the article the police came because someone called saying there was someone who was looking in the garages and looked suspect. The poor man was just walking minding his own bussiness and repeated many times that he didn't spoke English. He never meant any harm nor risk yet they beat him down when he moved his hands to his pockets. ( Or some other bullshit excuse like that )
I often like to think that we as a species have moved beyond such idiocy but seeing shit like that really does make me think otherwise.
Just because we've started wearing suits and saying "please" and "thank you" to each other doesn't mean we're much different from what we were 2000 years ago.
I often like to think that we as a species have moved beyond such idiocy but seeing shit like that really does make me think otherwise.
I might have possibly worded it wrongly. What i wanted to say is Alabama is a racist shithole and they assaulted a innocent old man becaude he had a diffent skin colour in a well off area. For shitty cops this gives them the excuse and they will probably again get away with this since this shit keeps happening.

Shit like this really brings me down, sometimes I think the apocalypse should just happen already,
It's hate for hate. People that do these kind of things usually have a history of the same thing being done to them. Yeah I'm not saying that everyone who gets beaten when they're young go on to beat up other people, or that these guys had a childhood like that, but 8 times out of 10 it's a case of them having a lack of dominance, power and control over their lives that they have to beat up someone that makes them in any way negative. It's best to remind ourselves that we aren't some calculated, telepathically-connected race, and that people like this will always exist as long as there is pain, anger and unjustified actions in the world.
Because he is brown. It's alabama is there any other reason?
Wow, what a well thought out statement. I bet you're just riveting in conversation. Not everyone in Alabama is a racist, cousin fucking hillbilly you jackass. [editline]11th February 2015[/editline] More to the point, cops in this town have been getting increasingly aggressive over the last few years. And this douchebag that beat up an old man will almost certainly get away with it. Here comes 2 weeks paid leave.
The cops in this case need banned from any governmental job and sent to prison for however long it takes. These racist "people" are not fit for today's society.
Is there any reason at all of why they did it? Not wanting to defend the cops but hell there must be at least something to justify why they assaulted him.
From the family's attorney:
"This is broad daylight, walking down the street. There is nothing suspicious about Mr. Patel other than he has brown skin," [Chirag Patel's] father speaks only Gujarati, and some Hindi
Police statement:
"The caller, who lives in the neighborhood did not recognize the subject and thought him to be suspicious," "The subject began putting his hands in his pockets," "Officers attempted to pat the subject down and he attempted to pull away. The subject was forced to the ground, which resulted in injury."
Bit absurd to use such excessive force when the guy clearly hasn't got a clue what you're saying
"The subject began putting his hands in his pockets." These fucksticks are clearly fishing for excuses. I hope the courts come down on them so hard it breaks them.
Because he is brown. It's alabama is there any other reason?
It's cute when people from other countries judge American states like they've been living here their whole life.

( Or some other bullshit excuse like that )
IIRC A lot of police departments shifted their focus on recuitment and on the whole job of police as being in conflict against whatever neighborhood they are responsible for. So you end up with new cops with fantasies of power and conflict, training that focus on neutralizing threats and institutional reinforcement for those behaviors. Then you add racial prejudice to the mix and you get this and other shit. http://www.howardcountymd.gov/Departments.aspx?Id=6442452186 For example, that page first video about training opens up with SWAT kicking down a door and focus on the action part of police duty This too: http://www.hsvpolice.com/Audio_Video/police_recruiting_2007.wmv
You call 57 elderly?
You call 57 elderly?
My father's 59, can't walk very far on his own, has a very bad back and has lost feeling in one of his legs due to a pinched vertebra. He's got a malnourished look about him, and though he's nearly six feet tall I can lift him with one arm if I wanted to. 57 can be considered as such under the right circumstances.
Is there any reason at all of why they did it? Not wanting to defend the cops but hell there must be at least something to justify why they assaulted him.
Being brown and in public still counts as "probable cause" in some parts of this country.
Update: the officer was fired and arrested. http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/02/madison_police_fire_and_arrest.html
You call 57 elderly?
Most humans reach their peak sometime before 30 i think and after that it just goes downhill for the rest of your life.
Hope the fuckhead has fun in prison, that takedown was worse than some of the shit you see in MMA. Could easily have broken his neck and/or just killed him on the spot.
What kind of threat could an elderly man possibly pose to the police where they resort to shit like this?
I don't really want to link the video of an elderly man killing a police officer, you all know the one I hope While it's irrelevant to the topic, I consider it a bit ignorant to say people are not threatening because of their age. Plus why would they severely beat a man to near death? Were there no bystanders? All we know is the police beat him, but why? They had him detained in the video before they forced him to the ground. It may be an act of racism, who knows. I just don't know why a cop would trip someone like that, without having a reason too? Specially knowing there are cameras literally everywhere.

He's a frail man - They tackled him and forced him to the ground, breaking his spine. It's still assault causing grievous bodily harm, and they ought to get fucked sideways to the full extent of the law for that.
Because he is brown. It's alabama is there any other reason?
people in alabama probably see more brown people all week than you do all year :v:
