He was speaking after his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, had also criticised the EU sanctions. Russia is Hungary's main trading partner outside the EU. Both Hungary and Slovakia depend on Russian gas. The EU says Russia must stop supporting armed separatists in Ukraine. Speaking on Hungary's Kossuth Radio, Mr Orban said "the sanctions policy pursued by the West... causes more harm to us than to Russia. "In politics, this is called shooting oneself in the foot." EU sanctions are now restricting Russian state access to Western loans, and blocking exports of defence-related equipment to Russia. EU exports of oil industry technology to Russia are also banned, but not gas-related equipment.
Now I know why everyone bordering Hungary hates them
Sit down viktor, youre talking alot of stupid shit.
Though they'll totally ignore the fact they sent the Ukrainians quite a few T-72s on the down-low..
Now I know why everyone bordering Hungary hates them
Great country, but their government is pure shit.
Although let's not forget that his point is the fact that a lot of the eastern EU states' food industry exports to Russia in great quantities. Losing that market is a heay blow, even if it's politically sensible.
Maybe Hungary needs a 1919 again?
Maybe Hungary needs a 1919 again?
Wasn't that a brutal but short lived catholic backed fascist dictatorship
Wasn't that a brutal but short lived catholic backed fascist dictatorship
Romania invaded a communist Hungary, ousted the commies, then left. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Soviet_Republic
