The Big Bang Theory: Half of Americans 'Doubtful' it Happened

Most of us are familiar with the Big Bang theory, a cataclysmic explosion responsible for the expansion of the universe. However, for many Americans, they're just not so sure it even happened. In fact, a recent study shows that half of study respondents said they were "not too confident" or "not at all confident" that "the universe began 13.8 billion years ago with a big bang."

Doesn't matter what you think, science is true. That's what's great about it.
i dont know why people dont believe in a big bang, from a christian perspective.
it makes perfect sense for god to just create a big bang to give him a giant sandbox to play around with (which eventually led to the creation of earth and humanity.)
i mean even the catholic church supports the big bang.
Everyone knows the universe was created in 7 days by an old giant white dude who lives on top of clouds
I wish I could be them, I'd give my left nut to forget that catchphrase. What was it, again? Bamboozly? Badoogle? Bologna? :downs:
It's perfectly acceptable to say you are not sure it happened, but you have to, at the very least, admit that the bulk of the scientific data points to the Big Bang being the cause of our universe as we know it.
And probably 95% don't know what the CMB is. Or redshift. Or inflation.

Please god no.
Also with descriptions like this coming from what are supposed to be science websites I can see where people get confused (though people who deny the theory without looking it up at all are obviously too far gone).
Most of us are familiar with the Big Bang theory, a cataclysmic explosion responsible for the expansion of the universe.
Honestly the theory should have just been called Expansion or something. A little dull maybe but more accurate.
Well yeah, I try to forget that travesty of a sitcom exists too.
Doesn't matter what you think, science is true. That's what's great about it.
Actually it's true until it is disproved. For example, the laws of gravity are true, until someone figures out how anti-gravity works.

"Kids, now that I've told you how I met your mother, I'm going to tell you the story of how I made the universe."

They probably think we have carbon dated the universe...
I do wonder how it feels to be so ignorant of your surroundings.
They probably think we have carbon dated the universe...
I doubt they have a clue about radiometric dating either. They probably think scientists were just sitting around thinking of ways to defy God because they are possessed.
Edit:
Oh no I read the comments I need an aspirin.
Everyone knows the universe was created in 7 days by an old giant white dude who lives on top of clouds
but days are a human-invented length of time based on the earth's rotation, how could days exist before the earth did
I should probably read the bible sometime, I'm probably missing out on a lot of information
I do wonder how it feels to be so ignorant of your surroundings.
It feels just like it feels to acknowledge science to be true. They think we're crazy, we think they're crazy.
It feels just like it feels to acknowledge science to be true. They think we're crazy, we think they're crazy.
Disagree. It is fundamentally a different thing to accept something that has been peer reviewed and tested as a fact. It is true that in order to be a successful modern scientists you cannot personally re-derive every past result, but you can at least know that they have been proven experimentally and employed successfully by those before you. It's pretty remarkable that an idiot Young Earth Creationist can get on their computer, connect to the world wide web (one of the greatest achievements of science), and accuse science of being an atheist conspiracy.
That's bullshit, it has its own wikipedia article for fucks sake.
They can't write wikipedia articles that aren't true.

So... Life after death is true..?
Search 9/11 videos and witness how many Americans think that it was an inside job then you realize why they don't believe in common things such as the big bang theory, it's fucking crazy what they come up with some people even say there was no planes, at all!
Here's a list of things they say;
The WTC towers were built out of solid steel (Literally JUST 100% reinforced steel, no concrete or plaster)
There was thermite used or better yet "nano thermite" or "super thermite"
Micro nuclear detonations were used to take down the towers and thermite is caused by said explosions!
Lasers
Holograms
So... Life after death is true..?
Proof?
Doesn't matter what you think, science is true. That's what's great about it.
Aaaaaaaaaaactually the Big Bang is just a popular cosmological model--a theory, in theory--which, although extremely satisfying in its explanation of the formation of our universe, is not intended to be treated as scientific fact with the relatively scant amount of evidence it has now.
Blindly accepting every suggestion a textbook throws at you is just as bad as doing the same with a religious text.

"scant amount of evidence"
Proof?
After having a few amazing DMT trips, I can confidently say that life after death is real.
So... Life after death is true..?
No, because theres no evidence that supports or refutes the claim. It's undecided whether or not theres life after death and we have no real way to prove it to be true or false.
It's the same deal with the big bang theory; most evidence points towards it being true but we don't have any real way of testing it. With that said it pretty much is a fact but it still remains a theory
So... Life after death is true..?
Well, life after death is not a theory backed by evidence, it's not a theory, or even a hypothesis for that matter.
Doesn't matter what you think, science is true. That's what's great about it.
That's not how science works, it's not true it's understood and examined.
We know how gravity works but that doesn't stop at it's true, we continue to figure out how and why it works and what makes it happen.

No, sorry. The big bang is a feature of all realistic cosmological models and there is tons of evidence to support it (see cosmic microwave background, cosmological redshift).

you realize people other than Americans can comment on youtube videos right? People say stupid shit all over the world, don't generalize it to being Americans.

No one's blindly accepting anything. It's backed by the scientific community and makes sense.

Well most do say something along the lines of "our government is evil" or "you're with the government"
