A BRITISH pensioner driving his recalled Peugeot to a dealer for checks was killed when it shot into a busy road. Frank Beer's semi-automatic 107 was one of 6000 due to have its accelerator pedals checked, The Sun reported. The cars were made in a joint venture with Toyota — which is recalling millions of cars with faulty pedals. Frank hit an oncoming Land Rover as he lurched on to the A30 in Launceston, Cornwall, on Wednesday. The 83-year-old — town crier of the nearby town of Liskeard — died at the scene. A 44-year-old woman in the other car had minor injuries. Police are now checking the Peugeot's accelerator. Frank's son Tim, a former cop, said: "While he was waiting to cross a fast road, his car moved forward twice. "We want some answers. I want to know if the car my father was driving was faulty. The next fatal accident could involve a family." All semi-automatic 107s — made alongside Toyotas at a factory in the Czech Republic — were recalled in February. A Peugeot Citroen spokesman said none of the 3000 cars checked so far had faults. He added: "We can't comment because we are awaiting police reports." Took it long enough for something like this to happen.
Whenever I see one of the recalled vehicles on the road I let that shit pass me or I change lanes. I'm not usually paranoid, but most people wouldn't know what to do if they lost control.
So some aging motorist fatally slips up and its automatically assumed the blame is on the car? Seems to me that Toyota have just become a temporary scape goat for all the shit drivers out there.
If only these cars were used during driving lessons.
Alot less of these incidences in the UK since most cars in the UK are manual
Manuals are so much fucking better
If only these cars were used during driving lessons.
I'm sorry but how the fuck could that be a good idea? in any way?
The fix to a racing engine is to turn the engine off. The problem is that they turn the key too damn far and lock the steering wheel.
The fix to a racing engine is to turn the engine off. It will go to the Accesory position which turns the engine off. But the key won't go into the lock position. I would be surprised if a modern car didn't have that. It seems like common sense to me.
Turning the engine off wouldnt have helped, as it accelerated while he was at an intersection.
So some aging motorist fatally slips up and its automatically assumed the blame is on the car? Pretty sure they mean that the accelerator part of the engine jams open. Not that the pedal gets stuck to the floor.
Turning the engine off wouldnt have helped, as it accelerated while he was at an intersection.
Of couse. If he was at an intersection not much could be done. For some of the other accidents, however, they could have easily been avoided by turning off the engine.
Manuals are so much fucking better
It is all a preference really.
"Oh hey tihs product has been recalled because it's got the potential to be dangerous, wait, I know I'll use the thing that's been called as potentially dangerous" Shoulds have used a tow truck.
It is all a preference really.
It is the best preference
"Oh hey tihs product has been recalled because it's got the potential to be dangerous, wait, I know I'll use the thing that's been called as potentially dangerous" Shoulds have used a tow truck.
He should have, but it was only one short journey, and I guess he'd used the car before that, so I can see why he did it.
Whoops, thought he was killed taking a loaned car back. Bad Reading.
It was not citrons fault, they just happened to make a car to die for.
So some aging motorist fatally slips up and its automatically assumed the blame is on the car? Seems to me that Toyota have just become a temporary scape goat for all the shit drivers out there.
Because Toyota totally didn't recall millions of cars that were suspected of having pedal problems and there aren't loads of stories out there just like this one involving faulty pedals with cars made by toyota with people dieing.
83-year-old
This is somewhat ironic.
So some aging motorist fatally slips up and its automatically assumed the blame is on the car? Seems to me that Toyota have just become a temporary scape goat for all the shit drivers out there.
Exactly.
Frank's son Tim, a former cop, said: "While he was waiting to cross a fast road, his car moved forward twice.
And of course there's NO CHANCE (/s) that he could have possibly hit the wrong pedal.
Whenever I see one of the recalled vehicles on the road I let that shit pass me or I change lanes. I'm not usually paranoid, but most people wouldn't know what to do if they lost control.
Wow, way to perpetuate a fear of near nothing.
Such a shame when people die at work.
Like I said in the other thread, what's so hard about putting the car into neutral or turning it off? If you know that your car may do this then be prepared for it. "Oh my car's engine doesn't sound like it's responding, I better turn it off." instead of "OH SHIT I'M GONNA DIE!".
83yr old driving a 107...that adds up to 200 almost...which multiplied by thirty results in 6000...which is the amount of cars being recalled. It's all very spooky.
So some aging motorist fatally slips up and its automatically assumed the blame is on the car? Seems to me that Toyota have just become a temporary scape goat for all the shit drivers out there.
Besides it's noted that most of the sudden acceleration deaths have been people over the age of 60. Probably because they don't have fast enough reaction and/or don't know to switch to neutral then turn off the engine.
