Damnit I have a really long typed-up thread about this detailing the consequences this may have for Facepunch's integrity and reputation sitting in the pre-post box Whatever I'll post it anyway

WHY?!
Damnit I have a really long typed-up thread about this detailing the consequences this may have for Facepunch's integrity and reputation sitting in the pre-post box Whatever I'll post it anyway
If you're implying that Facepunch will be swarmed by 12 year olds in the near future because of this video and how it mentions garrysmod I have my doubts. Even if that is the case they'll be swiftly banned.
I've never liked Yogscast.
I've never liked Yogscast.
I dont mind them, they put out decent content. Its more their fans that are annoying. Their gmod video is good. But many people will post who hate them no matter what.
I still think Yogscast is a bit pretentious for that whole Minecon ordeal. Like, minecraft videos were a dime a dozen and even though a shit ton of people watched theirs in particular, most of those people had already known of or were already playing Minecraft, so I don't think they "made Minecraft what it is." Not to mention the whole Kickstarter thing so they could make their own shitty game with loads of other people's money. [editline]a[/editline] In retrospect this was a pretty misinformed post, but I still don't like how they handle things.
Wasn't the MineCon thing just Notch being a sensitive child?
The whole thing stemmed from Yogscast feeling entitled to not have to pay to be there since it was their belief that they made Notch tons of money.
Wasn't the MineCon thing just Notch being a sensitive child?
Yea, I thought this was already established, seeing as the Yogscast came out and stated their case in a mature manner and Notch was acting like a baby about it [editline]28th September 2012[/editline]
The whole thing stemmed from Yogscast feeling entitled to not have to pay to be there since it was their belief that they made Notch tons of money.
Nope started from this http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/22/minecrafts-notch-versus-yogscast-the-story-so-far/
The whole thing stemmed from Yogscast feeling entitled to not have to pay to be there since it was their belief that they made Notch tons of money.
But the thing is, that they're pretty much speaking the truth.
The whole thing stemmed from Yogscast feeling entitled to not have to pay to be there since it was their belief that they made Notch tons of money.
They did make Notch tons of money though. Also it was a dick move of notch not the provide flights/accommodation to any of the high-profile youtubers who have made minecraft successful.

On the matter of the video, when they're not making high pitched noises and actually I dunno just having fun they're pretty entertaining. At least that's what I got from this video.
But the thing is, that they're pretty much speaking the truth.
Did yogacast even exist before minecraft? If it wasn't how does their statement make any sense? No minecraft, no yodacast.
Did yogacast even exist before minecraft? If it wasn't how does their statement make any sense? No minecraft, no yodacast.
They were around and made World of Warcraft videos before Minecraft, this began 4 years ago
Yea, I thought this was already established, seeing as the Yogscast came out and stated their case in a mature manner and Notch was acting like a baby about it [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] Nope started from this http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/22/minecrafts-notch-versus-yogscast-the-story-so-far/
Oh, right. Well at any rate, they were both being idiots. Hopefully people don't get too into depth on this topic since I wasn't trying to start a huge discussion on it. :v:
Did yogacast even exist before minecraft? If it wasn't how does their statement make any sense? No minecraft, no yodacast.
They got big during the wow cataclysm(?) beta.
They were around and made World of Warcraft videos before Minecraft, this began 4 years ago
Fair enough, but I still can't understand why notch would be entitled to pay anything to yoshicast.
Fair enough, but I still can't understand why notch would be entitled to pay anything to yoshicast.
The whole shadow of israphel brought in a huge following of people to minecraft. A large chunk of minecraft players heard about from there videos.

This song describes my opinion on Yogscast very well. I hate them. They basically are a dam keeping a shitflood of 12 year olds. And they open it at random shit. They are basically Notch Defence Force xInfinity
Fair enough, but I still can't understand why notch would be entitled to pay anything to yoshicast.
If prestigious internet celebrities who've made big huge waves in the community and promoted your game quite a lot have a panel at your con, and you are rich as fuck, it only makes sense to at least pay a percentage of their traveling costs. Common courtesy, and it's been done before.
Not to mention the whole Kickstarter thing so they could make their own shitty game with loads of other people's money.
Money that people willingly gave them because they might enjoy the game??
The whole shadow of israphel brought in a huge following of people to minecraft. Keep in mind that, Minecraft brought a shitload of fans to yolocast too. In other words, Minecraft made yoyocasts paychecks go to a new dimension.
How could this directly effect Facepunch?
This song describes my opinion on Yogscast very well. I hate them.
How could this directly effect Facepunch?
Yohocast fans see video of gmod --> search gmod on google --> find out about the gmod community forums aka FP --> join the forums. I can't see people coming here and starting a riot or some shit. Might bring a few new members to the community at best.
Money that people willingly gave them because they might enjoy the game??
Money that I think they asked too much for (and received too much of, I just don't see all of that money going into the game itself) considering what the game is and its rate of development, not going to criticize it for what it is, as it is still being developed.
I'm not against them playing Gmod, it's a great game and I'm all for the 10 year olds throwing their pocket money at Garry because it means we get an improved game and forum (maybe not community so much). I'm annoyed that they are playing Gmod 13 and playing a 3 year old gamemode and not even talking about the brand new features in Gmod that Garry has been working on, they could have played this YEARS ago, but no.
Money that people willingly gave them because they might enjoy the game??
You remember the anita sarkeesian tropes vs women in video games? Yeah people donated willingly to it, but it doesn't change the fact that she is both exploiting the popularity of videogames and the "feminist" viewpoint to get herself shitloads of money to essentially make youtube videos. Pretty much sort of the same thing. They are essentially making a minecraft clone that has yogscast characters. Yeah people donated to it but it doesn't change the fact that they are trying to get a fuckload of money for something that required an incredibly small effort from them.
I guess I'm the only one here who really like Yogscast v:v:v From what I can understand, you guys hate their fanbase, which I just ignore. The content they put out is fine.
