Paul McCartney will fill the role of Kurt Cobain when he plays with the surviving members of Nirvana at the 12.12.12 concert for victims of Superstorm Sandy on Wednesday night. The former Beatle will join Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic on stage in New York to play a new song after secretly working with the pair. Grohl and Novoselic have not performed with each other for 20 years.
A spokesman confirmed that Grohl recently asked McCartney to come along to "jam with some mates".
The former Beatle suggested they "just make something up" and found himself playing with Grohl on drums, bassist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear, who toured with Nirvana for the last six months of the band's career.
Kurt Cobain took his own life in April 1994.
McCartney said: "I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said: 'Whoa? You guys haven't played together for all that time?'
"And somebody whispered to me: 'That's Nirvana. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it."
The Rolling Stones, Jon Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Kanye West will also play at the 12.12.12 concert for victims of Superstorm Sandy at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Shit gonna get weird
I love spitting on whiny emo kids memories :v:
This is like the biggest way to do it.
Kurt loved the Beatles, so this is OK with me.
Will be interested in seeing McCartney try to sound like Cobain though. And the new track.
Didn't Krist play bass on one of the tracks on Wasting Light?
And I swear he was playing an accordion at a few live gigs of Foo Fighters in England.
They have played together in the last 3-4 years a bit here and there. (Krist and Dave)
Holy fuck this concert is going to be THE SHIT
oh god I would pay so much to see paul sing "milk it"

I get that. But Paul is literally the opposite of the spectrum in music and ideals.
I get that. But Paul is literally the opposite of the spectrum in music and ideals.
It's arrogant to speak about yourself in the 3rd person, Paul.
Besides, I'm sure you have some musical "reach" you can express.

I see through your clever disguise
paul mccartney is trying to take the role of kurt cobain while you're the real kurt cobain!
Sounds trippy....
I'm quite interested in the outcome, hopefully it doesn't crash and burn.
No... WHY DAVE GROHL, WHY WOULD YOU ALLOW THIS
No... WHY DAVE GROHL, WHY WOULD YOU ALLOW THIS
Maybe it's because he's able to handle the stress of fame, and stay alive to continue producing music.
oh god I would pay so much to see paul sing "milk it"
Make that 'Negative Creep'. Oh boy.

, and he crushed batmans head, in between his thighs..
Well shit if you want an awesome combo besides this, Them Crooked Vultures is Josh Homme from QOTSA, Grohl and John Paul Jones, very tasty indeed
Personally it would be pretty cool to see Frances represent Kurt but I don't
think she would take the huge fan-base well. (EDIT: Or even her boyfriend.)
Does anybody know of a link where this concert is gonna be streamed?

did you just use the word "emo"?
is it 2005?
I fucking love Nirvana, but most of the fanbase irritates the shit out of me

I think it's just the human race in general.

Are you bashing Kurt fucking Cobain
who the hell do you think you are, mr McCartney
[editline]12th December 2012[/editline]
(McCartney is equally as cool, by the way.)
from that title I thought McCartney gave himself a shotgun haircut
and I was about to be pretty worried
I think this will be pretty cool, I mean have you heard Helter Skelter?

I just don't see how he's so highly held up. The guy was an idiot who had a hit here and there, he held up this big anti corporate message and couldn't handle how he became the thing he preached against. He married Courtney Love, why would anyone even do that?
I just don't see how he's so highly held up.
because people like his songs?
i don't get why Paul McCartney is held so highly up either, John Lennon was much better.
guys they're not going to be playing nirvana tunes from the look of it. read the article.
Interesting pick to 'fill-in' for Cobain, although I think The Who is gonna wipe the floor with everybody like they did at Concert for New york (9/11 Benefit)
woops
I can't imagine Paul McCartney getting a voice anywhere close to Cobain's.
