A keen follower of the news, Mr Elliott would regularly voice his disapproval of Trump, until ill-health left him unable to communicate. As he lay dying in his Oregon home, surrounded by friends and caregivers, he had one last phone call with he ex-wife Teresa Elliott. The pair had remained close friends after their divorce two decades ago - and Ms Elliott knew precisely what to say. As an obituary for Mr Elliott published in The Oregonian records: "Mike ran out of family long ago and is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Teresa Elliott. Though their marriage ran aground, their friendship only grew stronger and hers was the last voice Mike heard. "And the last thing she said to him was 'Donald Trump has been impeached.' Upon hearing that he took his final, gentle breath, his earthly work concluded.

"And the last thing she said to him was 'Donald Trump has been impeached.' Upon hearing that he took his final, gentle breath, his earthly work concluded.
this sounds like it's ripped from an Onion article
That's rather depressing
to be fair on this guy I would also refuse to draw my last breath until trumpy's outta there
If I end up at death's door, I hope I have someone to tell me that Trump is been moved to a special room in a mental hospital that looks like the Oval Office where the orderlies call him Mr. President and give him fake papers to sign.
What a good friend tbh.

The windows open to a fishbowl for all the world's greatest polsci students
this sounds like it's ripped from an Onion article
I legit thought this was a Clickhole video just from seeing the title in Popular Threads
What a good friend tbh.
I'd honestly rather have a life long friend who taught me to respect others' opinions rather than just blindly giving me what I want.

This seems kinda fucked up I mean I dislike trump and I get the point was the comfort him but lying to a man on his death bed about politics of all things just seems really tacky and disrespectful.
this sounds like a very petulant and weirdly narcissistic thing to hold onto and run to tell a journalist
Reminds me of The Invention Of Lying.
i sincerely fucking hope that politics is the last thing on my mind on my death bed.
This seems kinda fucked up I mean I dislike trump and I get the point was the comfort him but lying to a man on his death bed about politics of all things just seems really tacky and disrespectful.
You'd be amazed how much politics can motivate some people. Back during the Bush Jr days my grandmother got a brain tumor, and it affected her speech a lot. She had trouble finding the right words to use and her speech was slurred, but she was fully aware and alert. Apparently the nurse was asking her questions to test her awareness (what day is it, what country are we in, etc) and she was having trouble answering, at least until they asked her who the president was. Her response? "That shithead", clear as day with no hesitation. Nobody in the room could stop laughing
It's hard for me to fathom ever being that wrapped up in politics. If I'm on a deathbed, the only thing I care about is that my SO is taken care of, finances (and debts) are in order, any pets I own have a designated caretaker or new home, and that my HDDs are all destroyed without investigation. :v:
I wouldn't want my last thought to be about Trump whether good or bad
What a good friend tbh.
your 'good' friends lie to you on your death bed lol
your 'good' friends lie to you on your death bed lol
I've never been on my death bed so I can't speak for everyone but if I'm about to go out I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care what someone decided to tell me. But y'know. That's me.
your 'good' friends lie to you on your death bed lol
Yeah, what terrible friends trying to comfort a loved one when they're literally dying right in front of them. What heartless monsters!
Yeah, what terrible friends trying to comfort a loved one when they're literally dying right in front of them. What heartless monsters!
Still lying about reality for the sake of a shallow attempt at comfort, in my opinion.
Reminds me of the game "To the Moon", there's just something about dying to a wish, falsified or not. Can't quite tell, presumably no one here's on a deathbed before so we don't know what we want or care what we hear before passing.
Still lying about reality for the sake of a shallow attempt at comfort, in my opinion.
When you're kinda in the middle of dying reality doesn't mean very much so... Yeah. The best thing to do when a loved one is dying is try to make them as comfortable as feasible rather than showing a lack of empathy.
Lying becomes okay in the name of good feels? I wouldn't be happy about having my reason denied to me just because I was dying but alright
Lying becomes okay in the name of good feels? I wouldn't be happy about having my reason denied to me just because I was dying but alright
if I was dying and didn't know better, and it made me happier in my last moments, I wouldn't give a shit
if I was dying and didn't know better, and it made me happier in my last moments, I wouldn't give a shit
This is exactly the point I was trying to make. The fact you're dying is kinda the important detail here, not the fact someone told a white lie.
worrying about politics on your deathbed is wasted energy though.
