Summed up my opinions and ambivalence on this pretty nicely. Great content creators being able to charge for their work is a no-brainer, publishers nicking the profit and scammers hijacking the system is a potential deal-breaker.
People shouldn't confuse this whole fiasco for ineptitude, or greed on Valve's part, but rather evidence of a company that enjoys complete impunity because of it's monopoly. Jim Sterling is right, modders who want to should be able to monetize their effort and consumers should be able to enjoy a regulated market free of scamware trash. But this whole system falls to pieces in Valve's libertarian laissez faire wankfest of a market where this mythical "community" is to regulate itself. I'll be shocked if anything substantially changes, at best Valve will offer up their typical half-hearted, crooked smile bullshit while pulling back or they'll simply keep it as is and ignore it because what the fuck are you plebs going to do about it.
