Report – Microsoft & Sony Pressuring Ubisoft For 30FPS On PC
In the recent turn of events, Ubisoft has taken quite a lot of flak from online gaming community after it was announced that the upcoming historical-adventure next-gen exclusive video game called Assassin’s Creed Unity will run at a native resolution of 900p and 30 frames per second on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. However, it looks like that the French video game developer is not only facing issues with its public relations, but it is apparently also under depressing pressure by video game console manufacturers that want it to lock its next-gen games at 30fps on PC, matching the general specifications of games on latest video game consoles.
The growing influence of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles over the video game industry is affecting the overall distribution of standard yardstick. Ever since the launch of the latest consoles, the third party manufacturers and video game developers have diverted most of their attention to console gaming, and PC gaming, despite of being ahead of all in position, time, and manner, is being heavily sacrificed. It looks like this is not all, the growing console fixation, and their unfavorable feebleness is even forcing the manufacturers to bring down the level of PC gaming to match that of consoles.
Some recent days have been very controversial for Ubisoft, and now, after the whole 900/30fps debate surrounding Assassin’s Creed Unity and PlayStation 4/Xbox One parity, a new report has surfaced online suggesting that both Sony and Microsoft are putting pressure on the French video game developer to lock its next-gen game at 30fps on PC. Seems kind of ironic, but I can’t say if this could be completely uncalled for, after all, we all know what is going on with the latest consoles and all that resolution and frame rate thing.
The information comes directly from Ubisoft’s employees. According to the report, during a school presentation about game programming, a Ubisoft engineer/Game architect revealed that the company’s development teams behind next-gen games always aim for 60fps, but due to “limitations,” they settle for 30fps, and that the console makers are pressuring the developer into going for the same frame rate on PC with next-gen games.
Before you go on reading the transcript provided by Reddit user Timois, I would rather like to make it clear here that this is only a simple report by a random user, so despite the proof that he provided in a form of screenshot that has been shared below, this all shouldn’t be taken that seriously.

During the presentation, the Online Programmer said that just before they release a game, they have to send a copy to console manufacturers, which then tell them what to keep and what to throw away (sooo yeah Watch Dogs maybe ?).
“30fps vs 60fps” ? everyone

The Game Architect said that they aim for 60 fps but due to “limitations”, they have to settle for 30 fps in recent games. He then implied that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC.

The HR rep said that managers are former programmers and can sometimes be interns. But people are always managed by someone who could do their job.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they're being pressured by Moneysoft, I mean Micromoney. Ah damnit, I'm doing it again.
limiting game performance on PC artificially or "locking" it, is going to work as much as simcity limiting offline play and cheating by validating through online syncing
PC master race has what consoles can barely have, modders and pissed off modders
Is this a potential first mutter of "Holy shit, they're onto us" from the console manufacturers and now there trying to limit the competition in a state of panic?

I know you weren't serious, but why the focus on Microsoft? Sony is doing it too ...
Pressuring me not to buy their product.
Meh, I refuse to purchase anything from Ubisoft after Watch Dogs, not to mention it will take modders around a week to find a way around it.
Good luck. We have dedicated nerds that will break that shit and allow it to run at 60 fps. Dark souls is an example.
I have never bought a PC game that was locked to 30FPS (even there were workarounds available) and I'm not going to start now. I bought new hardware just because most games didn't hit 60FPS anymore, every game locked at 30FPS feels like a personal fuck you from the developer.
It's harder to come up with names for Sony.
Well, if it's just their console division that you are attacking, you could go with PayStation. :v:

Mony?
It's harder to come up with names for Sony.
$ony
Easy
Games being locked to 30 fps is beyond stupid
I can understand if you're a shitty developer who can't actually optimize your game to do better than 30 fps, but this is a whole other thing.

Most important part of the article.
The only thing they should lock is the mouths of whomever made this statement.

Phony $ony Pony

Sony can suck my stony pepperoni
Holyshit, if MS and Sony are actually pressuring Ubi to gimp PC ports to 30fps, does that mean they were in cahoots since watch_dogs?

I wouldn't put it past them.
But I wonder about microsoft... Why are they trying to gimp PC, which is technically one of their platforms?
Dough-ny

Raise your pitchforks with caution.
I am so fucking getting linux after this.
It's harder to come up with names for Sony.
You mean to tell me $ony isn't enough for you? Damn you people and your standards of mocking corporations. :v:
I'm kinda glad I quit video games at this point
Why isn't Microsoft pushing Windows harder? They already have the master gaming platform but they're trying to fuck it up with consoles that have been losing them money ever since they came out. Windows doesn't even cost them a ton of money like xbox does, after the R&D all they have to do is copy and package discs, and that's completely optional now
I highly doubt the validity of this?? If any of this was true, I'd doubt it would come from the people from Microsoft/Sony, but rather the people in management at Ubisoft.

How the hell would Ubisoft benefit from artificially hampering the PC version if it wasn't pressure/money from Microsoft/Sony?

Because M$ doesn't make any money off of game sales on PC.
“Then maybe ask about the impact of AI on these APUs in the consoles.”
They said they have to use Microsoft’s cloud instead of the APU to do the AI in certain games due to hardware limitations.
Internet disconnected AIs become stupid?
after all the bullshit surrounding this game, i'm not buying it for shit
too hard to program women, too hard to program 60 fps
is this game being developed by literal mental fucking retards?

Parity across platforms makes their game look better to console players as well you know. I know that people seem to think that console and pc gamers live two separate lives, but there is an overlap such that if one looks way better than the other, people will know. And with how poor the publicity leading up to the launch of watch dogs was, I doubt that Microsoft or Sony would even bother paying them or asking them to add parity between the console and PC versions, when if they don't it makes Ubisoft themselves look bad, not console manufacturers. 6GB of VRAM "recommended" doesn't seem like a paid thing, seems like a badly developed thing.
There are far better games which have far better PC ports and console versions, which have sold more than Watch Dogs did and nothing like this has happened. Especially when it's mostly confined to Ubisoft this year. Does that not strike you as odd? If anything I'd say it's a management issue within Ubisoft. Why are things like Watch Dogs and The Crew effected, but Far Cry 3 (and presumably Far Cry 4) are not.
I think it's something we'll have to come back to in like 1-2 months after the new Assassins Creed game is out, along with Far Cry 4 and see how both of those PC ports fair up.
