Florida on the verge of being the 3rd most populous state in the union
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Sometime this year, Florida will surpass New York in population, becoming the nation's third-most populous state, and sun-seeking seniors are not driving the growth.
The milestone is validation of the sometimes messy but increasing influence of the Sunshine State as it approaches being home to 20 million residents at a time that historians may one day say was pivotal in the country's history. Once Florida passes New York, only California and Texas will have more residents.
"Florida is kind of an icon of the 21st century in terms of the shifting population and the growing role Latin America is playing in transforming the country," said James Johnson, a business professor at the University of North Carolina. "I think it's going to be for the 21st century what California or New York was for the 20th century."
Florida encompasses many trends in America: an aging population, a service-oriented economy with many low-wage jobs and an ethnic diversity propelled by Hispanic growth. Like the United States, Florida is a haven for migrants and people making fresh starts, and the state's 29 electoral votes are the nation's most coveted given Florida is the nation's largest swing state. Florida also has myriad problems, some the result of its explosive growth, which must be addressed for the state to keep thriving.
"many low-wage jobs and an ethnic diversity propelled by Hispanic growth." This is very true. There is a lot of Hispanics in my area and in Orlando. I didn't know our population was that much though. My friends still complain they can't find jobs though, but I bet their just being lazy.

This means the swing state is going to lean more towards Democrats.
Stay out of Florida. The big cities aren't great, and the tourist cities act like this: If you work in them, you can't afford to live in them. The laws are stupid and the populace hates tourists because the tourists drive 20 miles per hour slower than everyone while they sight see, and because of this it's driven (Har har) the residents who live here into driving like maniacal assholes
It would be a shame if it ended up entirely flooded by rising ocean levels or something, wouldn't it?

I concur. I was visiting the tampa area the week before christmas. I don't know how those people manage to keep a car more than a month before it totals out.
Drove to Clearwater 2 day ago. 3 hour drive from Orlando and it was fucking terrible. People drive insanely slow on the highways, and insanely retarded on the major interstates. Blinkers might as well not exist, as well as speed limit signs.

I understand this state isn't a great one, but is murdering people and destroying a mass of land really all that great?
Ah, news from my home state. When I lived in South Florida growing up, a lot of the cities got huge population growth due to tourism, hell traffic down there is horrible now. It won't be long until Miami(especially near Hialeah) has worse traffic than Los Angeles.

It's either people use the blinkers once and then fucking leave them on (i've seen an increase of this happening where people leave their blinkers on for the next 1.5 miles) or they don't use their blinkers at all.

It's not, indeed, and I am not suggesting it would be a good thing. The problem is that it might quite possibly enough just happen

The Tallahassee area is alright
My state is a shithole.

As a previous resident of Miami, Florida might as well be the worst state. Horrible people, horrible traffic, only good thing to come out of that place is Disney, Universal, Bayside, and the beaches. About it.

Ehh; I live in the coral springs area near fort lauderdale. I've liked it for the 20 years I've been here, it's just boring as fuck sometimes (most times)
I may be moving to Florida in a year or two, but to the northern part along the border with Georgia. From what I understand, that's more like "the south" than the rest of the state.
With all the florida men who can blame it. I think we should stop it before it lays eggs.
I live in Brevard county Florida and I think of it this way, unless you live in Orlando or Miami, you will be bored out of your fucking mind when it comes to things to do locally.

I'd rather walk around downtown Deland than downtown Orlando or Miami.
Palm beach county is the shit I'm upset with all of you
Lived there for 14 years

I've lived in Georgia and Florida all my life, that area around the state borders is exactly what I think of when people say "the deep south".
Personally I dislike Florida but love Georgia.
I live in Plantation and there fucking nothing to do. I want to say that not all people drive like jerks but I've been hit by asshole drivers twice now.

The more north you go in Florida, the more south it gets.
I live in North central Florida. I've lived in places where it's snowed: fun for a while, but I am simply not jealous of driving in the snow and shoveling it out of the driveway.

North Florida isn't terrible. Central Florida and South Florida hit some issues. I live in Winter Haven (about 45 minutes from Orlando) and it isn't bad here, but Polk County isn't exactly exciting. It'll feel like Georgia more than anything where you'll be.

Same. There is stuff to do but it's the kind of stuff you do once and be done.

i live in boca atm. i think that the city's ordinances and infrastructure are specifically built to spite poor people.
palm beach county in general is just not very good. all the drivers are constantly on amphetamines.
Currently live in Miami, Florida, and I have to say that while the traffic here is still complete shit, the attitude of the residents have somewhat improved over time. The one thing I'm proud about is the increase in education quality, recently the Miami-Dade school board made a deal with Cambridge University to make the education found in Miami to be completely Cambridge based. This means that soon all high schools will have a Cambridge magnet which is known to have really great results in student success.

i think you're talking about the AICE program.
lots of universities don't accept college credits from the AICE curriculum. :s
