• India Launches First Locally-Built Nuclear Submarine
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched the country's first locally built nuclear-powered submarine on Sunday. "Today, we join a select group of five nations who possess the capability to build a nuclear-powered submarine," Singh declared in his speech at the eastern naval base of Visakhapatnam. Although he billed the submarine as an outcome of a public-private partnership, the Indian leader did mention Russia in his address. "I would also like to express our appreciation to our Russian friends for their consistent and invaluable cooperation, which symbolizes the close strategic partnership that we enjoy with Russia," Singh remarked. Nonetheless, he called for leveraging the strengths of India's private industry for defense goals. Singh, however, insisted the submarine launch reflected no aggressive plans by his country. "We do not have any aggressive designs, nor do we seek to threaten anyone. We seek an external environment in our region and beyond that is conducive to our peaceful development and the protection of our value systems," Singh said. The launch came 11 years after internationally condemned tit-for-tat nuclear tests -- first by India and then by Pakistan -- in May 1998. Seems like India and Russia have quite a connection now.
Uhh ohh, what are those wacky russians up to this time? Tune in next week at 5 to find out.
India and russia have had a strong connection since the 40's.
Does it have enough room to hold cows?
They'll just hang off the side.
I doubt the so-called submarine can even resist to the tiniest of scratches.

Given the quality of any Indian electronic goods I've encountered thus far, I can see this ending in tears. Big, white hot, 6km tears.
wow I thought india were poor
No aggressive intentions? Oh, bullshit, they want to be able to park a nuclear launch platform somewhere that Pakistan can't get to them, that's it. Say, what's the fifth nation with nuclear subs? America, Russia, China, Britain...who's the last one?
I wonder how good the curry is on board.

Facepalmed at replies. Please remember that this is their first submarine that has a Nuclear ENGINE, they've had conventional subs that can fire nuclear missiles for about as long as they've had nuclear missiles.
wow I thought india were poor
They are No one in india is allowed to eat for a month to pay for it :downs:
ITT indians are poor, submarine is terribly built, submarine will fall apart very soon, everything they do is bad, they're just making this to go into war, using nuclear engines obviously means they are agressive
Oh Great, more nuclear toys for idiot governments. Well, at least it's not N. Korea.
So who doesn't have nukes now...?
I was going to be witty and post a list of non-nuclear armed nations, but I couldn't find one. I sure had a blast searching for one, though.
Ah, right, I remember now. Didn't one of their subs bump into a British sub recently?
I think so, I also think they were able to be towed and or sail under their own power back into their ports
