MPs look set to debate a change in the law to allow royals in same-sex relationships to marry or be in civil partnerships and for their children to be recognised as the heir to the throne. Parliament is due to pass legislation shortly to allow for the first child of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge to rule as monarch regardless of whether they are a boy or a girl. Now Labour MP Paul Flynn is gathering support for an amendment that will extend the protection to include the eventuality that the child is gay or lesbian. If accepted, the change to the law could lea to the reign of an openly gay or lesbian king or queen and for their same-sex partner to be recognised as consort. Any children born to the couple through artificial insemination or surrogacy would succeed to the throne so long as the couple are in a same-sex marriage or civil partnership. Current inheritance laws mean that if the couple had a child through adoption, they would not join the line of succession for the throne and it is not clear MPs would seek to change this. In order to secure a full debate, the amendment needs to be accepted by John Bercow, the speaker of the House of Commons, almost certain as he is a strong supporter of LGBT rights. It is expected to have the support of many Labour, Liberal Democrats and most Conservatives that back David Cameron’s plans to introduce same-sex marriage. The amendment would be to a law that as well as making inheritance gender neutral, will allow future royal babies to marry Catholics if they wish although the royal must remain in the Church of England. The issue is likely to be a complex one as the ruling monarch is also the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. The Church is currently officially opposed to same-sex marriage.
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/01/20/mps-to-plan-for-gay-royals-marrying-same-sex-partners-and-their-children-becoming-king-or-queen/ (probably not the best source, if anyone has a better one post it)
Lesbian queens and princesses. Oh yum.
Well I don't see it being an issue in the near future but at least they made a note of it.
Well I don't see it being an issue in the near future but at least they made a note of it.
It's more a symbolic thing than anything else, really.
Lesbian queens and princesses. Oh yum.
What about a Queen King
Brings new meaning to the term pillow princess.
snipsnap
What about a Queen King
drag queen
If a drag queen became the actual Queen the Brits would never hear the end of it.
I think this is great! I mean it's not a hugely important matter and I'm sure the people of our country could think of lots of other things they'd like the government to fix, but I suppose it makes the government look good and will make people happy too.
First thing that came to mind:
what if one of the princes gets an operation a transwoman queen dressed up like queen elizabeth would be hilarious
Lesbian queens and princesses. Oh yum.
sounds like a movie i saw once
first thing that came to my mind, wouldn't this technically endanger the royal bloodline? I'm just speaking from a technological/biological standpoint here. I mean do we even know if adopted children are currently eligible to be royalty? EDIT: Ok, reading all of the article and not just the bold part, I got my answer that adopted kids are not eligible to be royalty. As long as that oversight is there, all it takes are 2 kings and the Royal line is finished. The kid would not be able to take over.
If a drag queen became the actual Queen the Brits would never hear the end of it.
i think a drag queen would be king, technically? or would they go by chosen gender rather than sex?
first thing that came to my mind, wouldn't this technically endanger the royal bloodline?
Bloodline tradition isn't as important as it used to be; royalty around Europe marry with people outside of nobility all the time.
Drag Queens are just gay men in drag, not trans women.
ah okay. thank you.
Bloodline tradition isn't as important as it used to be; royalty around Europe marry with people outside of nobility all the time.
The way I see it, that's how the bloodline is continued now. The main issue though, is adoption now. If that's not fixed, all it would take to mess up the monarchy would be 2 kings. There would be no successor in that situation even with Adoption because Adopted children aren't eligible.
