SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - One student is being treated for a stab wound and a second is in police custody following a stabbing at Sanford High School.
The incident happened at 12:30 this afternoon. Sanford School Superintendent Betsy St. Cyr tells NEWS CENTER that two male students got in an altercation at the High School. One of the students stabbed the other with a small knife.
The student that was injured was taken by ambulance to Goodall Hospital. St. Cyr says he was lucid and alert while being transported. The assailant is in police custody.
Sanford High School was put in lockdown mode directly after the stabbing happened. It remained in lockdown until 2 PM, when students were dismissed.
All students were sent home with a note explaining what happened at the school and what procedures were taken.
We have a crew on the way to Sanford and will have more on this story on NEWS CENTER at 5 and 6.
I go to this school for vocational classes, didn't go today due to a a Regional Fine Arts meeting. It's weird though since Maine is not known for violent crimes. From what I know two kids didn't like another kid. One of them follows the victim into the bathroom and stabbed him seven times in the back. Will post more when I hear more from friends/news.
What's the point of all this violence?
He sounds lucky to be alive.

Considering he was stabbed in the back seven times, yeah. Both the hospital and the EMS station are only a few minutes from the school, but it is amazing he survived something like that regardless.
This school sounds pretty bad. However, last year a student in a High School 5 minutes away from me was stabbed in the head with a pair of scissors.
Well that sucks, who was the culprit.

That's the thing, it's not that bad compared to many high schools around the country. We're all baffled really.

They know who it is, I don't know last names. And first names I only by word of mouth.

Probably won't know for some time, considering it was only a few hours ago. On top of that, it's quite possible he's a minor and his name won't be released because of that.
what a whacky situation
