It was only 8am, and parents and children were going through their usual routine. Then there was a knock at the door: it was the police, come to seize the Winnie the Pooh laptop of the resident 9-year-old pirate. Torrent Freak reports that Finnish police raided the home after local anti-piracy group CIAPC determined copyrighted files had been downloaded illegally at the residence. After the girl's father refused to pay a 600 euro fine, the authorities raided the home and seized evidence—including the Winnie the Pooh laptop of the girl. Turns out that she'd been trying to download a number of song by Finnish pop star Chisu using The Pirate Bay. The father claims that the downloads didn't work—they instead purchased a CD from a local store—but that doesn't seem to have bothered Finnish ISPs, the CIAPC or the police. The girls's father has explained: "We have not done anything wrong with my daughter. If adults do not always know how to use a computer and the web, how can you assume that children or the elderly – or a 9-year-old girl – knows what they are doing at any given time online?" Rules are rules, of course, but taking away a child's laptop over a couple of failed torrents seems a little draconian. So far nobody's apologid to the family—do you think they should? The files "didn't work" and they paid for a legal copy afterwards...
tax payer money at work
Yes, please take down the people who already legitimately bought the content. Fucking idiots.
good thing they got rid of those filthy sick freaks it's people like them who ruin the entire economy and run the world into the ground!
[thumb]http://media.gizmodo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/POOH-copy1.jpg[/thumb] someone downloading shit shouldn't mean much. I wonder when that "But it's against the law" asshole who justifies bullshit laws will show up. Yes the police were doing what they're made to do and I have nothing wrong with the cops, I'll have an issue if the fine truly goes through and people don't even care at all about the age or the situation itself.
But it's the lawr
This is getting fucking ridiculous, when will all the bullshit stop? Why can't the government just leave the internet be, as I've previously mentioned, the companies that sell products (that are available to be shared (ie : software)) don't actually lose out on any money by having their product pirated, as it'd be no different if they didn't buy it. Whereas, if it were people stealing copies of a physical object they were paying to have manufactured, it'd be a totally different story, as that's just stealing, but sharing an mp3 of a single song via the pirate bay is no different to having a friend over and listening to it with you.

If that doesn't work, then we should ban having friends. And if that doesn't work, we should ban listening to music all together!

No one would care as much if you stole a physical copy of a game, even though that's WAY worse... but if you steal it digitally your a terrible person!

For a example: most top politicians in the US. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] Scratch that: most top politicians in general

So they wanted him to pay a 600 euro fine before they even had any evidence, if I was him I would have wiped my shit clean and been smug as fuck when they came knocking. Seriously fucked up, it's practically always the small pirates that get caught almost as if they do it on purpose to try scare people (hint: it's not working).

Why didn't they just hide the laptop and say it was someone using their wifi, can't confiscate what does not exist.
I'm not gonna pay you for any work you do you're not actually losing money, it's no different as if I didn't pay you
Why do you show up in every piracy thread just to disagree without ever using factual arguments to support your opinion? Oh right, it's because your opinions are incredibly stupid and not based on logic at all, and you're nothing more than an idiotic troll.
YES WHAT A HORRIBLE POLICE STATE Where police come to your house and seize evidence oh the humanity of all the european courts and police states all over the wooorld
It isn't literally like, nazi/third world country level, but honestly, a 600 fine for broken files that they now own anyways and they have to take it away from a 9 year old? If the fine actually is enforced and the court is against them then it's clearly bullshit
ding ding ding
I think it was more at the wording than the opinion.
I'm not gonna pay you for any work you do you're not actually losing money, it's no different as if I didn't pay you
nevermind stop please you don't even understand what piracy is do you? You can't get lose when there was never a sale. In many cases people might buy it anyways.
I'm not gonna pay you for any work you do you're not actually losing money, it's no different as if I didn't pay you
shame on you, you're not even trying

How exactly did that group know they were downloading illegally?
How exactly did that group know they were downloading illegally?
You know when you're downloading a torrent you can find an entire list of IP's downloading the same torrent right?
You know when you're downloading a torrent you can find an entire list of IP's downloading the same torrent right?
P sure IPs aren't a valid form of ID though.
Why does it seem that people only get raided or sued when it comes to music? I've never heard a story of someone getting busted for downloading thousands of dollars worth of software, but when it comes to a little girl downloading 2 or 3 songs, holy shit call the fucking swat. hell I know at least 10 people who pirate every game that comes out.

Music sharing is a crime. We should arrest the sick fucks who use evil, economy-destroying devices like this one!
