I don't know how many times this has to be repeated but you [i]never[/i] shoot someone in the limbs to try and "disable" them. It's easily just as lethal as a torso shot, and you're more likely to miss and hit bystanders.
Eh... Been to a few cons, generally you don't hold the weapon you a carrying outside the con zone. Only idiots do shit with weapons outside of the con area.
It sucks he died but honestly we need more information first, the article doesn't say too much.
If he was legit lunging at them with a sword like the article said, I really cannot fault the officers, though we don't have enough information to know what kind of a threat he appeared to be.

Thats surprising. The source in no way describes how the shooting went down. It's hard to blame it on any party when it's not described properly.
It could have been the guy who was still in "roleplay mode" and fucking around with the cops, or it could be a zero tolerance attack.
The cops are wrong in some way, but it's hard to tell immediately.

Shooting someone in a specific area is easy to say but hard to do with a moving target, if you ever shot a fire arm you would know this.

This is a hunch but as someone who went to a few cons, it wouldn't surprise me if the idiot had a few drinks in him, approached the officer while saying "it's fake" and the officer shot out of him approaching him.
