From Reuters:
U.S. President Donald Trump in a meeting on Tuesday with pharmaceutical executives called on them to manufacture more of their drugs in the United States and cut prices, while vowing to speed approval of new medicines and ease regulation.
Trump told them the government was paying "astronomical" prices for medicines in its health programs for older, disabled and poor people and said he would soon appoint a new U.S. Food and Drug Administration leader.
"We’re going to streamline the FDA," Trump said in a statement, referring to the regulatory agency responsible for vetting that new drugs are safe and effective.
From CNBC:
President Donald Trump met with leading drugmakers at the White House on Tuesday, jawboning them to produce their medications in the United States and to cut "astronomical" drug prices.
Trump also blasted foreign countries, which he said have been "freeloading" on the United States with price controls that limit what their own citizens can be charged for medications. And he vowed to use the purchasing power of the U.S. government, the world's largest drug purchaser, to push the price of medications down.
Original title was from Vox which apparently is a known shit source. Didn't know, never heard of it.
i dont know how anyone can be surprised
But he's a businessman :-)
I'd love to have sat in on that meeting.
"So Mr. President Trump sir, as you can see, if I drop the price of my $2.50 epinephrine auto-injector from $600 to $50, I can't buy a fourth yacht for my dog. And look at his face, isn't he just the cutest?"
"Well I'm sold. Hey, while I'm at it want a tax break too? Hell, I'll even waive personal taxes for you guys if you tell us it's a "bonus""
I really cannot fathom how a country could do this to itself in the information age. Every single person who voted would have been able to come across the constant barrage of information about how much of a slimy failure this man is.
Hey Trump supporters, care to defend this?
If he wants to deregulate maybe they can allow imports from Canada?
Getting rid of pharma regulations and lowering their taxes. Any evidence of supporters having second thoughts?
Who cares about people unable to afford medication or under the insurance cap, they'll be dead soon anyway
Two weeks, two weeks and four presidential terms worth of concern for the fellow man is virtually obliterated.
Amazing.
If he wants to deregulate maybe they can allow imports from Canada?
Hahaha
Oh hah I misread the title and figured this was gonna be one of those "huh good on him I guess" threads. What an utterly pathetic excuse for a president.
Lets make medication harder to get. What could possibly go wrong?
Hey Trump supporters, care to defend this?
Not really because they said it in their own article:
So what I want, we have to get lower prices, we have to get even better innovation and I want you to move your companies back into the United States.
And it's vox, the epitome of sensationalized crap, like Gawker tier crap.
Hey Trump supporters, care to defend this?
Is this going to get strawmanned in every fucking thread?
Hahaha
I just want inhalers that don't cost a car payment a month, don't laugh

Drug deregulation is a wonderful idea /s. Funny, because good regulations in the us saved us a lot of shit. Ah well, I suppose we'd all best make sure to carefully decide what we put in our bodies from now on if Trump's plan goes through.

Washington Times better?
Sometimes I wish healthcare and pharmaceuticals were a big no-no zone where nobody could fuck with it, like do nothing to help healthcare or raise the prices of drugs for no reason. Messing with healthcare is messing with lives on a grand scale, hard to see how politicians can't understand that.

I fail to see how that means he won't negotiate drug prices????
I fail to see how that means he won't negotiate drug prices????
Because he's not negotiating. He's literally just saying he's gonna make it easier and cheaper for them to produce drugs and that they need to make prices cheaper. He's not negotiated anything, he's just promised them certain things.

Negotiating involves giving the opposite party some of what they want in return for some of what you want.
Point being, they haven't promised him anything. There's no reason that drugs will actually be any cheaper and they won't just pocket the money they save on regulations and taxes.

Well it's not like Trump's "promises" mean anything either.....
If he wants to deregulate maybe they can allow imports from Canada?
hey now thats competition, something we shouldnt encourage. as in the highly successful cable industry, competition breeds losses
[editline]31st January 2017[/editline]
so hes either going to get us all killed quickly through total war, or slowly through climate change induced droughts and unaffordable medical care
If I remember correctly, some of the deregulation was to help generics to enter the market, which would help with the current environment. Atleast, I remember Trump mentioning this.
Please let me know if that isn't an avenue.
don't worry guys, he'll make deals, the best deals you've ever seen

Oh, I'm sure they "promised" Trump plenty.
Also I have noticed on most other articles on this meeting the titles are quite different from the vox one and the tone.

Just something worth noticing since Vox is pretty biased.
