The 14-year-old son of a U.S. oil millionaire was allegedly stabbed to death after being groomed over the internet while playing computer games.
Breck Bednar apparently told his parents that he was going to a friend's house for a sleepover close to his home in Caterham, Surrey.
But instead he got the train and travelled 30 miles to Grays, Essex, where he was found with knife wounds on Monday morning. He later died despite attempts to save him.
parent's fault entirely
edit: these dumbs, what sort of parent lets a 14 year old go off an organise their own sleepover with someone they've never heard of without checking with their parents? they basically let him go off on his own with no idea what he was doing or where he was going.
"groomed" ? Never heard that term in connotation with Games
I assume it means: creep contacts him through video games, makes friends, "hey wanna meet lol", and stabbing happens
In this kind of context its usually reserved for child molesters warming up their victims to the thought of sexual contact via exposing them to pornographic material, i think, so it was kind of a weird word choice when they could have just said lured or something
"groomed" ? Never heard that term in connotation with Games
Means they pretended to be friendly to gain their trust, although it's normally used in the context of rape.
I don't like the way they mention the fact that the the boy's father is an oil millionaire. It's completely irrelevant

Inequality, very unlucky people will kill the ones that lucked out.
Probably why he got stabbed in the first place, some people sometimes brag about their privilege.
It's also why my dad wants to hide his name from the press when he wins the lottery, he feels he'll be too good a target if not so.
At least that's how I can look at it, can't really think of another reason why he would be stabbed in the first place.
Grooming isn't something i associate with Battlefield 4.
I hate how they add in the fact he was "Groomed in video games" and then they proceed to say "He played battlefield 4."
Why the fuck should i care about a video game in this sad situation? We all know that blaming the game is the lamest excuse in the book.

Probably not irrelevant, I'm sure he was targeted for money related reasons
Goddamnit
Probably not irrelevant, I'm sure he was targeted for money related reasons
I doubt he was targeted.
parent's fault entirely
the kid was probably "brought up to lie and meet strange people"..right?
truth is.. it's hard to avoid this shit unless people are open to talk about it to others.

Unfortunately; the world we live in makes it relevent. Doesn't necessarily make it the reason for this particular murder though
Probably not irrelevant, I'm sure he was targeted for money related reasons
through a videogame?
There's the problem. He went to Essex.
I would take everything in this article with a pinch of salt, it practically screams Daily Mail.
My condolences to the family.

Does this change anything a little?
I don't mean to sound politically picky, but what does his father being in the oil industry have anything to do with the tragic loss of a dead child?

Might I inquire, why?
They are sensationalizing this by making it sound like a pedo attack, 'grooming' oh please!
Obviously these two guys were gay and met for illicit sex and the older one got carried away during rough sex.

That mother though.
The schoolboy's mother Lorin said today: ' Breck was a clever, good and helpful boy. Like most teenagers, socialising, computers and games were what he enjoyed.
'The problem was the predator who was trying to control his ideology about religion, government, family, education.
18 years old = predator.
I think I saw something about a guy who knew him on imgur.

lol stop throwing this around its literally on every thread where something bad happens to a kid
lol stop throwing this around its literally on every thread where something bad happens to a kid
you cant tell me this wasnt the parents fault, every kid should know not to go with random strangers over the internet, and they should've checked in with his "friend's" parents
the kid is 14 who the fuck just lets their 14 year old off alone to someones house when they know nothing about the person?

"Entirely"
It's sad but a 14 year old should know not to meet strangers over the Internet
If its anyone's fault, it's his parents and the school systems fault for not teaching him to be cautious in this world
