• Electric car sets world acceleration record at 0 - 100 kph (62 mph) in 1.513 seconds
An electric racing car built by Swiss student engineers has broken the world record for acceleration by battery-powered vehicles. The grimsel car took only 1.513 seconds to reach 100kph (62mph) - slashing about a quarter of a second off the previous record time. So far, no petrol-powered production car has managed to hit the same speed in a comparable time.
Source

Shit it's like an ultra light Ariel Atom with an electric engine. I want to see a video of this
Shit it's like an ultra light Ariel Atom with an electric engine. I want to see a video of this
They decided to put the cameras in really shit places:
They decided to put the cameras in really shit places:
The sound that it makes accelerating sound like some huge flywheel spinning up.
It's not really fair to compare it to only production vehicles if it's entirely custom made. [editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] Impressive nonetheless

[editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] Impressive nonetheless
Probably because people have a frame of reference of production vehicles, whereas custom record-breakers are less well-known so comparing to those would be sort of senseless for the purposes of an article.

It's a big cheat though, it's a purpose built car. Compare this to top fuel dragster: "A top fuel dragster accelerates from a standstill to 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) in as little as 0.8 seconds."

Comparing it to a top fuel dragster is fair imo. They're both purpose built performance machines designed to go fast.
broken the world record for acceleration by battery-powered vehicles.
The record is specific to BEV's, too.
Calling it now the the new Tesla Roadster and it's Maximum Plaid mode will be the fastest (or at least match the current fastest of 2.2 secs) 0 - 60 production vehicle.

all this did was tell me how fucking fast cheetahs are holy shit
They decided to put the cameras in really shit places:
I know this is kind of a big deal but it doesn't look impressive at all. It doesn't even look like it's going that fast. Camera angles or something? Dunno.
I know this is kind of a big deal but it doesn't look impressive at all. It doesn't even look like it's going that fast. Camera angles or something? Dunno.
I think it's because of shit camera angles, the car being small, and not having much to compare it to the scene.
I know this is kind of a big deal but it doesn't look impressive at all. It doesn't even look like it's going that fast. Camera angles or something? Dunno.
I mean you can compare it to the fastest street legal car. It doesn't look as fast on video as it is: On a side note, the sound of those turbos spooling up is giving me a stiffy while I'm at work. This is no bueno.
Don't think they count as a car though otherwise the record would probably be held by some rocket powered car.
Rocket cars don't accelerate as fast as a top fuel. [editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] Apparently, no other vehicles accelerate faster, period
They decided to put the cameras in really shit places:
It looks and sounds and moves like a toy car, except it's real and the size of an actual car. That's mindblowing
Rocket cars don't accelerate as fast as a top fuel. [editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] Apparently, no other vehicles accelerate faster, period
Check the video just above your post. Custom made drag vehicles accelerate absurdly fast.
Check the video just above your post. Custom made drag vehicles accelerate absurdly fast.
He was talking about top fuel dragsters being the fastest. The video I put above is not a top fuel dragster, but a "street legal" drag car, which if I'm correct, Jeff Lutz runs either Methanol or regular high octane race gas when he makes passes. Top fuel dragsters run nitromethane as a fuel. This is top fuel in comparison (and these reach speeds of 300 to 400 mph):
Oh I misread, whoops.
