• Congressional Republicans Lobby Trump To Back Down On Tariffs
Fears of economic and political backlash are motivating senior congressional Republicans to move forward this week with public and private lobbying efforts aimed at getting President Trump to change his mind on tariffs he intends to levy on steel and aluminium imports. "We are extremely worried about the consequences of a trade war and are urging the White House to not advance with this plan," AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said in a statement. "The new tax reform law has boosted the economy and we certainly don't want to jeopardize those gains." President Trump downplayed congressional GOP concerns. "I don't think you're going to have a trade war," he said Monday at the White House, where he defended his decision to crack down on imports. "People have to understand, our country on trade, has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world whether it's friend or enemy. Everybody." The president noted his efforts to renegotiate NAFTA continue as well. "We are renegotiating NAFTA as I said I would, and if we don't make a deal I will terminate NAFTA," he warned. Congress is not ruling out possible legislative action to counter Trump's actions, although party leaders have no immediate plans to act if the president moves forward this week as stated with imposing tariffs of 25 percent on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum imports. ... I was wondering when supporting trump would backfire on the GOP to the point they go "Wait no what are you doing"
If he does listen to them and pulls back, I'm sure his base will not be too pleased. For all of 5 seconds and they'll say it was a masterful distraction tactic
Like they have any leverage on what he's going to do. He's been a wild card since day one, with only personal interest in mind, with the various powers who sought their own personal gain pushing him along.
If he does listen to them and pulls back, I'm sure his base will not be too pleased. For all of 5 seconds and they'll say it was a masterful distraction tactic
I don't even know how his base feels about the tariffs. T_D has no comments about it whatsoever.
I don't even know how his base feels about the tariffs. All you'll find is at least lukewarm support or silence because that's the absolute bottom of the barrel that's allowed on that subreddit.
Presuming any community which actually has a rule against "concern trolling" to be a massive dumpster fire full of people completely disconnected from reality has been a pretty good rule of thumb for me.
It's a good indicator, but it's pretty dead on when the explanation for that rule is 'people who actually support Trump may accidentally trip this rule and that's OK because actual supporters of Trump understand the need for this rule and would be comfortable being banned -- only those who don't support him would throw a fit about being banned for a dissenting opinion'. e: No, really, this is actually in their rules. Even 'reasonable discussion' is banned because there can be no discussion as there is no debate that Trump is correct in whatever he's done - otherwise you don't support him.
What is concern trolling, you might ask? We are talking about rule 2, and by extension rule 8. Here are some examples... "Mods here should really stop stickying polls and concentrate on leaks!" "We need to stop upvoting memes and instead focus on [insert item]!" "Why are we not reaching out to Berniebros? Seriously, we should make threads about it right now!" "This rally thread's audio is shit! Our sub has been compromised by shills!" "I'm a Trump supporter, but ..." "We will lose the election, if ... [something that "needs" to change on /r/The_Donald]" 99.9% of things that start with "You guys", "Hear me out" or "Don't downvote, but..." You probably get the point. They beg for compromise. They will never give us an inch - they just want to drive us apart. This is a game we do not play. We get it. Even good centipedes sometimes "concern troll" - it's happens. Everyone has opinions and that's natural. We do need to enforce our rules, and with 'pedes, the bans are always temporary slaps on the wrist - good 'pedes always understand and are reasonable! CTR shills on the other hand complain like there is no tomorrow. They are so easy to spot. (You aren't fooling anyone.) PER RULE 8, PLEASE SEND SUBREDDIT SUGGESTIONS AND CONCERNS TO MODMAIL. Realize that we can't always grant the wishes of every single subscriber of the 250K+ here, BUT we can at least guarantee that your suggestion will get seen by mod eyes. CTR wants to exploit concern trolling. You've probably even seen an increase in this lately on the sub. It's their last ditch effort - they are going to be out of jobs by the end of the week, and they are SCARED. When CTR starts whining, you know we are doing something right! What can I do to stop these fuckheads, you ask? Simple. Keep reporting any and all concern trolling you see on the sub. (Or any fuckery you see in general.) You are the FRONT LINE against these assholes and YOU have your finger on the pulse of this community. 'Pedes know this culture better than anyone. Look, CTR shills. DONALD J. TRUMP IS GOING TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. PERIOD. And there is nothing you can do about it. We are onto your tricks. The subscribers here are in it to win it and we are a united front as your weak attempts to divide and conquer!
Surely that would have counted as a complaint by their standards?

Those that scraped by were those which didn't receive many upvotes.

I guess I had just saw those threads at the prime time, then. For my own sanity, I don't go to T_D very often, only in a great once in a while to see what hellish landscape is like in there.
an unusual position to be where their endless congressional majorities can't do shit to stop their honorable leader
fucking hilarious that these spineless, vacuous scumbags have done absolutely nothing to stand in the way of trump doing loads of stupid shit, but now the stupid shit threatens their bottom line, suddenly they're up and ready for action [editline]6th March 2018[/editline] but then again this is just "concern", so who knows, maybe even money can't find their spines anymore.

I did hear on reddit that one of the report post reasons is "liberal," is that really true or just some bullshit. Also, I won't bet on if the Republicans will back down and allow the tariffs, because they are like maggots or worms in terms of having a spine. No wait, maggots and worms have a larger spine than the Republicans.

Here are t_d's: The CSS styling for the sub also changes the "report" button to read "deport". Deporting illegal threads, hurr. Also, you might notice that those rules create a right-wing hugbox, because dissent is banned.

If they didn't regret going with Trump before, I bet they do now. It only matters if their bottom line is in the crosshairs.
AP is reporting Canada and Mexico are "permanently exempt". So instead of a suicidal move, it's just a dumb one.

Other countries with a “security relationship” to the United States may seek exemptions by opening talks with the administration on “alternative ways” to address the threats the administration alleges their products pose to national security, the official said. The plan differs significantly from Trump’s initial suggestion he would apply the taxes to all imports, a change that follows a week of pleas from his fellow Republicans to narrow the tariffs or abandon them entirely. The initial exemptions for Canada and Mexico are not time-limited, but are designed to last only long enough for the administration to assess the outlook for the NAFTA renegotiations.
So how about that bullshit. He's doing this primarily to make his dick hard, because it's clear that he's completely detatched from the reality of the situation. He thinks Canada will just sit and take the tariffs and won't retaliate in any way, except that every other time America's put unfair tariffs on us we've retaliated, but history doesn't mean anything to King Donnie.
Donald's trying to draw attention from the fact that half his staff is on the way to jail, most of who's left has resigned, and there's a noose tightening around his own flabby throat.
