Can't really drum in a dorm :v: but thanks! I appreciate that!
Did you play snare in your school's band? Just making a broad assumption by your skillset/practice pad.

Used to, in high school. I got tired of it, so I didn't continue in uni.

Thank you very much!
Hey, thats pretty good, I used to play drums before, but I sadly never reached this level of skill. Keep it up!
Speaking of marching band I was drum major in my band. And then two years later my brother was drum major.

Assuming you had your part already made for you (which many show choir parts usually are), I'd say the best way to make the overall sound of your kit better is to incorporate a broader range of dynamics. A part without dynamics just makes the drums sort of fade into the background, and almost sound machine-like (although, this isn't helped by what your part is, which is as bare-bones and standard as you can get). You should feel when the song itself is changing phrases to known when to shift dyamic levels. For instance, when a dance break happens, get louder. When the singers are doing some crazy run/important part in the song, tone it down a bit. You can also incorporate different dynamic levels into the main rhythm of song, to emphasize and give more of a feel to what the singers are doing. I know what I'm saying is basically just "make the singers sound better and that's your only job" but I've played in a showchoir band and that's really it. Go fucking crazy on dance breaks, strut your stuff, but when the singers are doing their thing, help them get their musical message across.

Thank you for your input, dood.
One thing that definitely sucks about show choir drumming is (at least my director) wanted me to sound as much as a machine as possible. During one song it originally had me playing ghost notes on the off beats for a more syncopated groove, and he made me remove them because it detracted from the choir's performance. It made my part a hell of a lot more boring.
Another example is throughout that entire performance you can pretty much hear 4-on-the-floor kicks. I originally had more interesting and technical kicks throughout the show, and during one practice my director came to me and said, "Those kicks are confusing the singers, just make it quarter note kicks."
Show choir drumming doesn't really allow me to be that creative with things.
"woo"
