A two-year-old child has shot dead a 29-year-old woman in a Wal-Mart store in the US state of Idaho after reaching into her bag and accidentally firing her gun. The woman was in the store, in the town of Hayden, shopping with the two-year-old and three other children when she was shot, said Kootenai County Sheriff's Deputies, according to local television station KREM. Employees evacuated the Wal-Mart after the shooting, which authorities at the scene described as accidental based on video surveillance and people who witnessed it. The television station didn't identify the woman or say whether she was the mother of the toddler. Deputies said the woman and children were in the back of the store near the electronics area at the time. Authorities said the woman had a concealed weapons permit allowing her to carry the gun in her purse. Not much to say but what the fuck. I always thought concealed carry required it for it to be directly strapped to your person.

Why was the firearm loaded in the first place? And why wasn't the safety on?
Poor kid. Can't imagine how shitty he's gonna feel in the future when he understands what he did. It really was a terrible accident.
Why was the firearm loaded in the first place? And why wasn't the safety on?
It's not too uncommon to carry with a round in a chamber, and something might have caught on the safety or there might not have been a manual safety. More concealed-carry-optimized guns have more precautions to prevent accidental discharges, but there are a good amount of guns which are unsafe to carry especially with a loaded chamber.
Not much to say but what the fuck. For women, the purse is considered on your person provided you are, of course, holding it.
Why was the firearm loaded in the first place? And why wasn't the safety on?
People conceal carry firearms for self defense. An unloaded gun isn't going to do the least bit of good in a situation where you need to be able to fire it. Also, generally, a lot of concealed carry firearms don't have safeties because the last thing you want to be doing when getting it out to defend yourself is fumbling for a safety. A lot of them have what's called an "trigger integrated safety" which means the safety is a lever that extends down in the middle of the trigger, so pulling the trigger with your finger is possible, but fabric catching the trigger won't pull it at all. The article doesn't say what kind of gun she had, but I'd wager it was a small revolver. A lot of people, especially women, prefer to carry revolvers because they're extremely simple to operate. It's just too easy for the gun to go off accidentally, get stuck, be seen, be forgotten, or get stolen when it's in a purse or handbag. It's not like women can't wear IWB holsters. Most of them these days wear pants.
Just a horribly unfortunate accident. I hope that she wasn't the kids mom. I mean growing up knowing you killed a caretaker or a babysitter is one thing, but to grow up knowing you killed your mom is just fucked.
This is one of the large reasons of why (I feel) that concealed carrying should not be a thing. Way too easy for somebody to get their hands on it - exactly like this scenario.
Why was the firearm loaded in the first place? And why wasn't the safety on?
What's the point of carrying a firearm if it's not loaded..?
What's the point of carrying a firearm if it's not loaded..?
I think he meant with a round chambered? Either way the child's fucked.
hands up dont shoot (User was banned for this post ("Shitpost" - SteveUK))
What's the point of carrying a firearm if it's not loaded..?
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
Kids start gang violence so much earlier in life these days.. Next thing you know, and baby is going to come out of the womb with a knife, and tell the doctor to hand his wallet over.
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
And the one's that don't?
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
still, if they run, they're gonna run if it's loaded too, and if they decide to fight anyway, good job you just escalated the situation without actually having the means to defend yourself
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
Pulling out a gun in a volatile situation without the willingness or ability to actually shoot someone seems like a really bad idea.
"accidentally"
Kid was two years old. Why would a child shoot their own mother intentionally? How would a two year old do it? Jeez.
Why not just give people rubber bullets for any gun to be used as a self defense weapon?
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
I thought the rule was that if you point a gun at something you should be ready to destroy it?
Mostly her fault for carrying a loaded gun with a bullet chambered. That's just asking for an accidental discharge.
You'd surprised how often a common mugger would run if you pulled a gun on them, despite it having bullets or not.
Yep, then you run into one that will fight you or pull out a gun themselves now what? If you're going to threaten deadly force, you best be able to back it up. I don't see why people in this thread are debating, it was an unfortunate accident. Not everything can or be prevented, shit happens.
Kid was two years old. Why would a child shoot their own mother intentionally? How would a two year old do it? Jeez.
He knew he'd get away. The perfect plan.
Mostly her fault for carrying a loaded gun with a bullet chambered. That's just asking for an accidental discharge.
This is how you concealed-carry. The intent is that the gun is ready to go as soon as you need it. If there's no round in the chamber, it's not ready. Is she going to tell a mugger "Hold on, let me chamber my gun first." No. If you carry a gun, you carry it loaded, else you're not prepared to use it, and therefore shouldn't be carrying it at all, because if you pull a gun in a situation where you need it, but aren't prepared to use it, then you're getting it taken from you and you're going to end up fucked.
He knew he'd get away. The perfect plan.
Poe's Law has been fulfilled, it was an awful joke anyway.
Remind me, what's the reason behind concealed carry laws again?
Remind me, what's the reason behind concealed carry laws again?
Self-defence. The supreme court has even said that concealed-carry is protected under the Second Amendment and mandated that all states have some form of law allowing the concealed-carry of handguns, which they do.
At least Idaho has the death penalty. I hope this kids gets his sooner or later.
